“I prepared for the IBPS Clerk exam for three years. Cracked the exam in my second attempt by securing 105 marks out of 200. Only smart work and regular practice are the keys to success,” says IBPS Clerk qualified Adarsh Verma. Read his complete interview below.
Q. Tell us something about your background?
I completed BTech in Mechanical Engineering from CSIT College, Durg, Chhattisgarh.
Q. What was your overall and section-wise marks/score in IBPS Clerk exam? Which year did you qualify the exam and where you are currently working?
My overall score in IBPS Clerk exam was 105 out of 200. I secured 27 marks in Quantitative Aptitude, 36 in Reasoning, 20 in General Awareness and 22 in English. I am currently working in Bank of Baroda.
Q. What made you to pursue career in banking? Which all other exams did you appear and which all you have been able to crack?
I always wanted to work in a bank that is why I chose this career option. I had also cleared SSC CGL 2017 exam but could not make it to the final merit list. I had also worked as an Assistant in LICHFL for few months in 2018.
Q. How much time did you prepare for the IBPS Clerk exam? Did you crack it in the first attempt?
I cracked the IBPS Clerk exam in the second attempt. I prepared for three years for the exam.
Q. Tell us regarding the challenges you faced while preparing for the exam?
The only challenge that I faced was building speed and accuracy. I had to work very hard to develop speed and accuracy.
Q. Did you take any coaching for the exam. If yes, from where and how long?
Yes, I took coaching for three months from a coaching institute in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh.
Q. Tell us something regarding your roles and responsibilities?
The roles and responsibilities of Clerical cadre posts are handling cash in bank such as deposit and withdrawal of cash. Also, some operational activities such as opening of an account.
Q. How to prepare for IBPS Clerk exam? Tell us the strategy you applied to prepare for the exam?
The best way to prepare for the exam is analysing the weak and strong areas. Try to overcome the weakness. Also, practice the strong areas at the same time.
Q. Is coaching important to crack the exam?
Yes, if you are beginner, coaching is important. It will help you to understand the pattern and type of questions asked in the exam. It will also help to clear your concepts.

I studied for six hours dedicatedly. I prepared the study routine as per my weak and strong sections.
Q. What is the ideal time for starting the preparation?
Aspirants can begin their preparation in the final year of graduation. This will give them time to understand the exam well.
Q. What should be the section-wise preparation strategy?
For English section, read newspapers daily. Note down vocabulary. In Quantitative Aptitude, practice one set of any topic daily such as Percentage, Time and Distance, etc. In Reasoning, practice one puzzle daily and questions from miscellaneous topics such as Inequalities, Syllogism, etc. In General Awareness, focus on current affairs of last six months. Refer to General Awareness capsules to keep yourself updated with the latest current affairs events.

Q. What according to you were the easiest and toughest sections?
The Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning sections were easy in The English and General Awareness sections were tough.
Q. Did you take any mock test? How mock tests help to improve your performance in the exam?
Yes, I took mock test. This helps to improve speed and accuracy. It also helps to analyse the performance for the exam.

My hobby is playing table tennis. Any kind of sports activity keeps you motivated and focused.
Q. Any message or advise to the future banking aspirants?
Aspirants should do smart work. Do not get demotivated if you are not able to crack the exam in the first attempt. Therefore, be patient and prepare for the exam. Do hard work, practice regularly and study properly.
