Genetics courses are an educational program that covers the principles, theories, and applications of genetics—the branch of Biology that studies genes, heredity, and genetic variation. Genetics is the study of the heredity of the characters. It is a branch in the biological sciences that helps to study any species at the gene level.

The Genetics courses are typically offered at various levels including UG, PG, Doctorate, Diploma, and Certification. Though the eligibility criteria for Genetics courses vary depending on their level, the minimum requirement to pursue a course is to pass Class 12 in the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology subjects with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognised board.

Admissions to Genetics courses are based on both merit and entrance exam procedures. Some popular Genetics entrance exams include ICAR AIEEA, CUET-PG, CPGET, CUET, etc. Banaras Hindu University, Delhi University, VIT Vellore, Calcutta University, SOA University, etc., are some top choices among students for Genetics colleges. The average course fee ranges between INR 1,180 to INR 79.5 Lakh.

Once graduated with a Genetics course, candidates can opt for job profiles such as Geneticist, Genetic Analyst, Laboratory Assistant, Biotechnician, Genetic Researcher, etc. The average salary of a Genetic Technologist is INR 2.3 LPA in India. Q:   What is a Genetics course?

A:

A Genetics course is an educational programme that focuses on the study of genetics, which is the branch of Biology that deals with the inheritance, variation, and expression of genes in living organisms.

Genetics plays a crucial role in understanding how traits are passed from one generation to the next, how genetic information is stored and transmitted, and how it influences the development and functioning of organisms.

Q:   What is the scope of Genetics in India and abroad?

A:

The recruitments in Genetics are both from the private and public sector. However, the public sector acts as the dominant one. One can get jobs in various national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and also work as an animal breeder. Along with that,   can also apply in various educational institutions as an assistant professor or may even work on a project in government recognised labs.

Apart from that, there are innumerable private-sector job opportunities, including hospitals, pharmaceutical industries and genetic engineering industry. One can also work as a genetic counselor in various NGOs to assist families and individuals about many inherited disorders.

The course scope in India is already very popular, and in the near future, it will increase further at a greater pace. Even abroad, one can get high payable jobs along with pursuing the research work in various international labs.
