Q:   Can I join IMUC directly?

A:

No, you cannot join IMUC directly. To qualify for admission to the university, you must pass the IMUC entrance exam. Every year in May or June, the IMUC entrance exam is held. There are two ways to take the exam: online and offline. Three areas make up the exam: chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Q:   Is IMU Chennai good for UG Diploma?

A:

IMU Chennai - Is it good for UG Diploma?

Here's what past students and alumni have to say:

* Good Infrastructure: Well-maintained campuses with modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, libraries, digital classrooms, swimming pools, sports grounds, and comfortable hostels with a sea-facing view.
* Experienced Faculty: Professors who have extensive sailing experience (15+ years) providing both theoretical and practical knowledge. Teaching methods are admired, making students industry-ready.
* Placement Opportunities: Although there may be some limitations, most students have reported getting placed or sponsored by top companies like Fleet Management, Synergy, Torm, and Home.
* Course Curriculum: Relevant and industry-focused, preparing students for careers in the merchant navy.
* Campus Life: A vibrant atmosphere with extracurricular activities, sports, and festivals.

However, there are some areas for improvement:

* Food Quality: Some students found the food to be subpar.
* Limited Placement Opportunities for Boys: Unfortunately, the college focuses more on placing girl students, leaving boy students without opportunities.

Overall, IMU Chennai seems to be a good option for those interested in pursuing a UG Diploma in the merchant navy field, considering its strong infrastructure, experienced faculty, and decent placement opportunities. However, students should weigh the pros and cons carefully, particularly regarding limited placement opportunities for male students.

Best Maritime Campus and Well-Experienced Faculty Members.
Placements: When it comes to placements, about 70% of the students have been placed, and the others are still waiting for the companies to take the list. The placed students have a package of about 30,000 to 55,000 INR per month, which is from companies like Synergy, V Ships, M.Sc. Chevron, and other small companies with smaller salary packages like TCI, etc.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure and classrooms are good. There is a projector in each classroom, and when it comes to the labs, there are many instruments, devices, computers, etc. The library is fully air-conditioned with lots of books, for learning as well as for entertainment. The hostel rooms in our college and the food there are fine, with healthy food and a neat atmosphere.
Faculty: All the faculty members are well-educated and experienced captains. They teach us with their full potential, and we can understand them very clearly. By taking the DNS course, we study for 1 year and the other 18 months are for training. There is difficulty in each semester exam. The pass percentage for a semester is to obtain 50% marks for each subject, lab, and assignments.
Other: Events and activities are very good on the campus, and there are extra activities like Sports Day, Holi, and Christmas, which are well-celebrated on the campus.

Absolute good for this fees with this faculty, with a very good placement.
Placements: 20% of the students were already placed when they came to college. 60% of the rest were placed by the college. In my course, the average salary package is between INR 15,000 to 50,000, which depends on the type of ship and company. Many companies visited our college and selected cadets. Companies like Synergy, Chevron, New Shipping Kaisha, Andromeda, Fleet Management, Anglo-Eastern, M.Sc. MSI, TSI Seaways, Maersk, etc. Everyone who met the eligibility criteria was selected by a company. Deck cadets are the entry-level position on a ship, and are promoted based on experience and passing exams.
Infrastructure: The classroom environment was good with smart class, air conditioning, plenty of space, fresh air, and Wi-Fi. The library was well-stocked with materials for our studies and exams. The hostel life was lacking, especially the food in the mess. The food quality was poor for me and my fellowcadets. The accommodation was like any other hostel, with four students in a room. The medical facility was only open from 9 to 8 on weekdays. Sports and games were active, and students were encouraged to participate in various competitions.
Faculty: The teachers were very kind and helpful, and they were all experts in the field we were studying. The facilities were great, and the course curriculum was relevant and interesting. The exams were challenging, but I was able to pass them with a score of 79%.
Other: I chose this course only on my own interest in this field. My brother-in-law is a chief officer. He used to be an inspiration for me to get into this field. DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science) is the course I choose to study as it's only one year of education and the rest is in our training period. This course gives us quick job facilities and a stipend, which we will be getting in our training period. The course has nothing to improve or get better. College has been nice to everyone by celebration festivals, culturals, sports days, and all. Scholarships have been given to other eligible cadets. Campus is so peaceful with it's nature and beauty.

Best campus for maritime studies.
Placements: In DNS, there are about 120 students, out of which more than half have already been placed or sponsored, and the rest are given priority even after passing out from the campus. The faculties are well-trained with sailing experiences, and visiting faculty members are currently working in the industry. After the course, you can join a ship as a deck cadet, where you'll learn and get trained to be a better seafarer.
Infrastructure: All the basic facilities are available on the campus like Wi-Fi, library, digital classrooms, swimming pool, sports ground with all the necessary requirements. The hostels are quite comfortable with a sea-facing view. The college also provides medical facilities with a doctor, and the food is above average.
Faculty: The faculties are best in class with 15+ years of sailing experiences, and the teaching is both theoretical and practical. The semesters are conducted twice with 2 mid-terms in each sem. The difficulty level is not too difficult if you attend the classes. The admission process is quite simple; you just have to clear the IMUCET entrance and then enroll for counseling, that's it.
Other: The main reason for choosing this campus is because it's a government campus with very good face value in the industry. Also, there are various fests, sports, and other activities conducted by the campus. Additionally, the scholarship for girls and OBC, SC, ST students gives them the chance to come up and pursue the career. The only issue is the language barrier with the neighborhood for the North Indians.

For those who are interested in Merchant Navy, this college is very good.
Placements: More than 50 students are placed out of 120. More shipping companies are coming for placement. For joining this college we need to give IMUCET. For sponsorship in DNS we have to give Synergy sponsorship exam. Most of the passed candidates get placed in college. Otherwise we have to take placement off campus.
Infrastructure: The college has good Wi-Fi, a good mess, and medical facilities. There is no canteen on campus, but there are grounds for playing basketball, badminton, cricket, football, and volleyball. The library has a good collection of books and a good Wi-Fi network. Overall, it is a good environment for study.
Faculty: The teachers are very good. They are experts in their fields and are former masters of ships. The course is tightly paced and can be learned in one year. It makes students industry ready. The semester examinations are not very difficult, but the passing percentage is only between 60% and 70%.
Other: For DNS students who are sponsored, this college is very good.

Students also asked

Q:   Does IMUC accept JEE score?

A:

Yes, IMUC admits students with JEE scores into its B.Tech degrees. When determining admissions, IMUC takes a number of variables into account, including the JEE score. In addition, the student's achievement on the IMUC entrance exam, extracurricular activities, and high school academic record are taken into account by IMUC. Q:   Is IMU Chennai good for B.E. / B.Tech?

A:
{Source: B.E. / B.Tech students & alumni}

IMU Chennai for B.E./B.Tech

Based on the reviews and feedback from students and alumni, here's an assessment of IMU Chennai for its B.E./B.Tech program:

Faculty
* Mixed opinions on the faculty, with some students finding them unhelpful and others appreciating their knowledge and guidance
* Not all faculty members have a strong background in their respective fields (according to some reviewers)

Infrastructure
* Average infrastructure, with some amenities lacking (e.g., Wi-Fi in hostels)
* Limited sports facilities, and no swimming pool despite being a part of the marine engineering course
* Good classrooms and libraries

Placement
* High placement rate (around 85%) with major companies visiting the campus
* Salaries range from INR35,000 to INR50,000 per month initially, increasing up to INR7 Lacs per month with experience and promotion
* Opportunities for internships at different ports

Curriculum
* Relevant and industry-ready course structure, making students employable
* Complex curriculum, however, might require extra effort from students

Overall Experience
* Mixed feelings about the college, with some students enjoying the academic environment and others experiencing difficulties with certain faculty members or infrastructure limitations

In summary, while IMU Chennai seems to offer a decent educational experience and relatively good placement opportunities, some concerns arise regarding the faculty and infrastructure. Students seeking a strong foundation in marine engineering and a supportive learning environment may find IMU Chennai suitable, but those expecting exceptional faculty guidance or state-of-the-art infrastructure might consider other options carefully.
