SRM Institute of Science and Technology: Courses, Fees, Admission 2025, Placements

For students who wish to apply on the basis of their Class 12, having Maths or Business Mathematics/Statistics/Allied Mathematics is compulsory. However, those who wish to apply on their basis of their Diploma in Engineering don't need the same. Apart from this, it is also crucial that the candidate has passed the qualifying exam with the minimum aggregate, i.e., 50%. 

MTech is a two-year course divided into four semesters. SRM Institute of Technology Kattankulathur offers M.Tech in full-time mode in 27 specialisations and part-time in nine specialisations. M.Tech (full-time) specialisations are Automation and Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Cloud Computing, Computer Aided Design, Construction Engineering and Management, Electronics and Control Engineering, Embedded System Technology, Environmental Engineering, etc. Candidates who have completed graduation in relevant subjects can apply for any of the M.Tech specialisations.

The Institute accepts national-level entrance exams like CAT, MAT, XAT, TANCET, NATA, SRMJEEE, SRMJEEM etc. for admission to MBA, BArch, BTech, M.Tech and other courses. Due to the ever-growing requirement of technology, the demand for BCA graduates is increasing rapidly. After graduation, BCA students can opt to work for leading IT companies or Government organisations. Candidates can complete their Master’s degree by studying M.Sc (IT). They can also improve their teaching skills and work as a computer teacher/instructor in schools, universities and colleges. Many BCA graduates are hired across government department to manage critical computer infrastructure as well as important data related to citizens.

Candidates who have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination from a recognised board can apply. However, the qualifying examination should have been passed with a minimum of 50% aggregate. Candidates seeking admission to BCA must apply online on the official admission portal of SRM IST if they fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria set by the deemed university. STEP 1: SRMIST BCA Application Process 2024

The steps to be followed for filling out the online application form are:

Step 1.1: Register on the online admission portal of SRMIST Chennai.

Step 1.2: Verify the email added during registration and fill out the complete application form.

Step 1.3: Upload the photograph and signature on the application portal.

Step 1.4: Payment of the application fee (INR 1,200) and application form submission.

STEP 2: Shortlisting of Students

The applications are further scanned by the authorities. Candidates are selected for admission based on merit in the last qualfiying examination.

STEP 3: Admission Confirmation

The selected candidates then have to submit important documents for verification and pay the fee for course admisssion. Course commencement and orientation details are provided to the students by the institute.

The best campus of SRM University to pursue BTech is the Kattankulathur campus. It is the largest campus of SRM University and has the best infrastructure, faculty, and placements. The campus is spread over 2,500 acres and has all the facilities that a student needs, including hostels, classrooms, laboratories, sports facilities, and a library. The faculty at the campus is highly qualified and experienced. The campus also has good placements. During the SRMIST placements 2023, the highest package and average package offered stood at INR 57 LPA and INR 7.58 LPA, respectively. 

SRM University conducts SRM JEE exam for admission to Engineering courses. Candidates seeking admission to BTech and M.Tech courses must qualify for SRM JEE (UG) and SRM JEE (PG) exams. The university does not accept scores for any other entrance exams. Also, direct admission is not valid either. Candidates are shortlisted for BTech and M.Tech based on their past academic records and scores obtained in the entrance exam. 

To sit for the respective exams, candidates must apply for the exams priorly and make a preparation strategy to ace the exam. 

Candidates must have a two-year master's degree or a professional degree equivalent to Masters with at least 55% aggregate (50% aggregate for SC/ST/OBC) or grade 'B' on the UGC 7-point scale. Candidates who have cleared the MPhil with at least 55% aggregate (50% aggregate for SC/ST/OBC) or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale can also apply.

Here are some positive and negative points of SRM University: 

Positive:

1. Located in Chennai which is a metropolitan city. Three out of five campuses are located in Chennai
2. You can have a lot of fun
3. In KTR, there are a lot of opportunities provided to students to develop their profile like hundreds of clubs, teams like robocon, conrods, camber, and 4ze where students can build their own bots, cars and stuff. If you are really interested in your field then you can do anything in SRM
4. Canteen facilities are excellent
5. As far as placements are concerned, most students are placed in IT sector. Core companies also visit the campus but they select only one or two students. In a batch of 500600 students i.e. 1520 students are placed in core companies. But still that depends on your skills and we can’t blame the university for that.

Negative:

1. The student to faculty ratio is too high.
2. Faculty members are not very highly skilled, though they are postgraduates in their respective field. Most of them have completed M.Tech from other local colleges. There are very few from IITs and foreign universities.
3. The curriculum is old. 
4. The evaluation system is also not very good.
5. Very little research happens here. Most of the faculty members don’t have any publications
6. Also, if you have a lot of money you can join in management quota into any branch you want. Almost half of the students have joined in management quota.
