B.E. in Manufacturing Engineering - Batch of 2021

My college life was satisfied.
Placements: Almost 80 percentage of students placed. 3 LPA and 12 LPA are the minimum and maximum packages. Thermax, Tvs, Caterpillar are the top companies. In our seventh semester internship came. Only few students only got internships. Top roles are only offered like GET.
Infrastructure: In our manufacturing department Labs, Wi-Fi only available. Only one library available for all department students. Heater and newspaper are the facilities available. Separate mess available for veg and nonveg students. Health centre available. All sports games are available.
Faculty: The faculty members are very knowledge. They are finished Ph.D. in their respective departments. This course very helpful for our future. No diificluties in our semester examination because we have two assessment conducted before semester examination. It is very helpful for examination.
Other: Because manufacturing technologies are very interesting to learn. I wish to improving conception studies only. Scholarships are provided for all students.

The infrastructure of our college is good. You can get good exposure to extra activities.
Placements: Around 20% to 30% of the students from our course got placed in on-campus placements. Most of them got placed in IT companies like CTS, Infosys, TCS, etc., while some got placed in core companies like Caterpillar, etc. The highest salary package offered is 9 LPA, and the average salary package offered is 3.5 LPA. It is mandatory for us to do an internship in 6th semester holidays. So, every student must do an internship for a period of 1 to 2 months.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure available here like a library, Wi-Fi facility and classrooms are satisfying. But labs are in poor condition, and many instruments or machines do not work. You can join in any sports or games. The quality of the food served is average. Hostel bathrooms are not hygienic.
Faculty: Some of the teachers here are very qualified, knowledgeable and experienced, but some are not. They rarely attend classes and complete only some portion of the syllabus. The course curriculum needs to be updated, and practical knowledge provided is poor.

Review of CEG - College of Engineering Guindy, Anna University.
Placements: Around 40% of students got placed from our college. The highest salary offered was Rs. 60,000 per month by Caterpillar, and the lowest salary offered was Rs.25,000 per month by Cognizant. The top recruiting companies were Caterpillar, Ford and Hyundai. The role offered was of trainee engineer. The highest salary package offered in our course was 8 LPA by Caterpillar, and the lowest salary package offered was 3.25 LPA by Cognizant. An average salary package offered was 4 LPA. Almost 35% of students got an internship in Caterpillar, Hyundai, Salem Steel Plant and Bosch.
Infrastructure: There are a high tech metallurgy lab and additive manufacturing lab installed in the department. Classrooms were good, and can accommodate 80 students. The cheapest college hostel in Chennai is CEG hostels. The quality of the food served in the afternoon was good, sometimes it was just average. Canteen is the best thing in CEG. You can get Sholapuri for only Rs. 15. The college also has a health centre in case of emergency. Now coming to sports, there is a separate place for volleyball, handball and hockey.
Faculty: Most of the teachers were very friendly and knowledgeable. But concerning assessment marks, they play politics. Most of the staff teach using PPTs. The course was a combination of mechanical and production engineering. So it covers all the important subjects like FEA, thermodynamics and operational research.
Other: I chose this course because of the previous year placement records. But unfortunately, we were not included by many companies. They included the production department. So, it is better to choose the production department at MIT rather than manufacturing in CEG. Placement cell should tell that our department is also there in CEG. Cultural program and CEG are like synonymous. In a year, you would come across 5-6 festivals like Freshers' day, Agni, Techofes and department symposium. Many useful clubs are there in CEG campus. Robotics club is worth to spend some meaningful time and do some projects. Apart from this CEG Tech Forum (CTF), there is a team organizing Kurukshetra event.

Everything is good except the teaching quality of faculty members.
Placements: Almost 40% of the students got placed, and a few placements were offered by core companies. This year, 6 students got placed in Caterpillar company with a salary package of 9 lacs per annum, and 10 students got placed in CTS and Infosys with a salary package of 4.2 lacs per annum, and some students got placed in Myntra. Few students got placed in a Japanese company, and they are trying to learn Japanese.
Infrastructure: Our college provides very good Wi-Fi facility. Library and medical facilities are good. Sports and games facilities are available for students to play. Food provided in the canteen is inexpensive and is worth eating there. Hostel facilities and mess food are average, but we can do anything independently. Classrooms are good, and the examination centre is also comfortable.
Faculty: Faculty members are well educated, but the teaching quality of some teachers is not good. Mostly, we studied on our own, and we took the help of other students before exams. But, it is a great place to develop our skills. One can gain a lot of knowledge by joining clubs and conducting events.
Other: Technofest is our cultural and entertainment festival organised for 3 to 4 days, and many celebrities attend this event. Kurukshetra is a great technical fest. Most of the students from other colleges also participate in this.

One of the top notch colleges in the country, but it will be better if the faculty are good.
Placements: The placement scenario for my batch is poor when compared to my senior batch, but still, the C.S students have very good opportunities. So far, around 100 companies visited but most of them are for computer science. The 3rd-year students usually get the internships, but only a minimal amount of the students receive offers. Those who are getting placed will get a decent salary ranging from 5 LPA to 24 LPA.
Infrastructure: My college is one of the oldest engineering colleges in the country, so all the buildings and labs are old. We have a wide land area which covers almost all the major departments and labs. The labs are mostly equipped with old equipment since it is a government college and we usually do not have high-tech labs.
Faculty: Since it is a government college, our professors are lazy to conduct classes. They have very good experience in teaching but most of them will send their junior staff members to take the classes. In my past semesters, many professors won't complete the entire syllabus as they hardly teach only one-third of the syllabus and will then tell us to study by ourselves. The curriculum is hard and tough, the subjects have their own classes, and their standards are quite close to the IIT syllabus. Since most of the professors are mostly experienced, they help in the future studies of the students in many aspects.
Other: My college is not only best in studies but also good in other extracurricular activities like sports, technical and cultural activities. We yearly conduct an international level ISO certified techno-management fest called KURUKSHETRA and also the college is famous for its cultural fest, which one of the oldest cultural fests in India which will be celebrating its 70th edition this year. The exposure which I got in this college is numerous and I am not sure whether I would have got this exposure if I have studied in any other college. Coming into this college as a fresher and a nerd, this college has taught me the lessons of life.

Students also asked

Q:   Does College of Engineering Guindy accept JEE score?

A:
Yes, the Government College of Engineering (CEG) in Guindy, Chennai accepts JEE Main scores for admission to its B.Tech programs

However, some colleges conduct their own entrance exams instead of relying on JEE scores.

For Tamil Nadu students, admissions are based on normalised aggregate marks in Class XII PCM through TNEA counselling. For other state students, admissions are based on Anna University counselling.

Other engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu that accept JEE Main scores include:

  • National Institute of Technology (NIT), Trichy
  • Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai
  • Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA University), Thanjavur

Absolutely, the Government College of Engineering (CEG) in Guindy, Chennai recognizes the importance of JEE Main scores for admission into its B.Tech programs. However, it's noteworthy that certain institutions may opt for their own entrance exams as an alternative to JEE scores.

For aspiring engineers from Tamil Nadu, the admission process is distinct. It hinges on the normalized aggregate marks in Class XII Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, assessed through the TNEA counseling. On the flip side, students from other states find their gateway through Anna University counseling.

Diversifying the options, other reputable engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu also open their doors to JEE Main achievers. The National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Trichy, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in Chennai, and the Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA University) in Thanjavur are among the esteemed institutions welcoming candidates based on their JEE Main scores.

This dynamic approach to admissions ensures that aspiring engineers have multiple avenues to pursue their academic and professional dreams, fostering a diverse and inclusive environment in the realm of engineering education.

I don't want you to lose hope but it can be difficult for you to get there. But you can try your best. You might get that in the last round of the counselling or if there are some vacant seats after the last round of the counselling.
