Experience the beautiful life at IIT Madras.
Placements: Sixty percent of students got placed. The highest package was 1.6 crore, the lowest was 5 LPA, and the average was 12 LPA. Companies like Amazon, Flipkart, and Google recruited 70% of the students for top roles such as Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Project Manager, Frontend Developer, Business Analyst, Consultant, etc.
Infrastructure: IIT Madras has top-notch infrastructure, with 24/7 Wi-Fi available in classrooms and libraries. The hostel is well-maintained and cleaned daily, and the food is okay. There are free medical facilities for all IITM students, and NSO, a sports organization, is also present at IITM.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, and we can contact them directly if we have any doubts. Generally, people who completed their Ph.D. are recruited, and most of them have 20 years of teaching experience. The semester is quite easy; most of the questions will be from previous year questions.
Other: Every aspirant wants to join IIT; for me, it's like a dream come true. I like the calmness and greenery on our campus. One suggestion would be to increase the semester period from 4 months to 5 months.

Life changing roller coaster at IITM.
Placements: 87 percent of the students have been placed from the branch of Civil this year. Average package offered is around 8 Lacs and the highest package varies every year. Top recruiting companies are L&T, AESEC, AUTODESK and others. 27 students got internships. As I’m a first year student, I didn't get placed yet.
Infrastructure: We have everything in our hostel including cupboards, indoor games, indoor courts, gym, and Wi-Fi. The quality of food depends on the mess you prefer, so the quality is based on the mess similarly. We have luxury rooms in the first year where we can make new connections.
Faculty: Some teachers are very helpful and almost all the teachers here are highly qualified. As I'm in the first year, all the students have the same course, but from 2nd year onwards, branch-wise courses begin. The end semester exams are difficult compared to the mid semesters. The students can get in the college if they study hard.
Other: Best things about my course is that I can explore civil and many clubs in this college will help in building my career. Events happen every year with SAARANG, the cultural fest, happening in January.

Good teaching faculty, guaranteed placements for students, and really good atmosphere to survive.
Placements: Almost 55% of students placed in phase 1, the highest package was 48 lacs, the lowest was 6 lpa, the average was 17 lpa, and companies were Flipkart, Google, L&T, and Deloitte. 70% of students got internships. Roles offered are product manager, software developer, consultant, data scientist, data analyst, etc.
Infrastructure: 24/7 Wi-Fi, labs in our department (building sciences block) with excellent infrastructure, etc. are there. Facilities in the hostel are a sports room, CCTV cameras, and a study room. Food: 3/5 Medical-hospital costs are free for IITM students; even medicine is free; and there is 24/7 availability of ambulance services. Games: Inter IIT every year, and lots of gaming clubs are there.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and they are well-trained PHDs from foreign universities and other IITs. Teaching quality is top-notch. The curriculum is very relevant and they provide everything in detail before semester 1 starts. Exams are quite easy; they mostly ask questions from previous-year question papers. The pass percentage is 80%.
Other: Saarang and Shaastra are two big events that happen every year. The CEA (Civil Engineering Association) fest happens in April, when a lot of learning opportunities are provided for students.

Our college is very good.
Placements: Almost 90% of students got placed in our course. The highest salary offered is 1 CPA. The average salary package offered is 25 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered is 17 LPA. Tata, L&T., visit our college. All students got internships.
Infrastructure: Our college provides sufficient facilities like Wi-fi, labs, classrooms, a library, a gymkhana, a stadium, a ground, food courts, a swimming pool, etc. Extra classrooms will be opened during exams. The hostel is good and provides geysers, showers, etc.
Faculty: Professors are good and knowledgeable. They teach us very well. Their interaction with students is good. They arrange teaching assistants for helping students. Exams are very difficult. The pass percentage is 35%. It is very difficult to score a pass percentage.
Other: Our college is very good and has a good environment. I opted for this course because it has many choices and provides many government opportunities. I got this branch as per my percentile in JEE advanced.

IIT Madras - Real Gem to be in for your Undergrad Study.
Placements: For my course, I. e. B.Tech. In Civil Engineering, the following is the breakup: 1) 60% of the batch strength was placed in either non-core (Business, Analytics, consulting, finance) industry or IT (Software development, data Science) roles. 2) 10% of students who intended for core civil placements could convert into roles in a few Indian firms such as L&T, Shapoorji, etc. 3) 10% of students wanted to go for further higher studies and hence did not sit for placements. They were able to convert offers from highly renowned universities all across the globe, majorly from the US. 4) 10% of the batch did not get placed in the desired firm, sector, or industry and hence opted out from the official placements and tried externally via their own networks. Most of them have received at least 1 offer in hand in their desired area. Roles: 1) Non-core: Consulting and Finance are with the highest packages (averaging out at 18LPA for consult and 32LPA for finance) and most fierce competition 2) Non-core: Business Analyst, Growth and strategy, data analyst were the remaining roles with an average package of ~15LPA 3) IT- software: this year due to recession, the package averaged out at 30LPA, and the number of packages in total were also less than usual by almost ~20%. Mostly the firms were startups. 4) Core roles were offered by L&T, Tata, and Shapoorji. The average CTC was about ~8LPA.
Infrastructure: Though the hostels are a bit old, but in terms of facilities you pretty much have everything that you would commonly ask for in a hostel or even for that matter in a PG: 1) Single/Double sharing room depending on your year in the college (usually single from second year onwards) 2) 1 Cot, 1 Table, 1 Chair, room with basic amenities like window and cupboard. 3) Washroom and bathroom are not attached to the room but are common for a wing of about 10-15 students, but are super clean and hygiene is maintained. 4) Gyms are available in most hostels or if not there is a central gym facility of international standards 5) Playground decent enough for a football match in every hostel. 6) Gymkhana having Olympic standard facilities for every sport you name: Badminton, squash, lawn tennis, table tennis, swimming, cricket, hockey, football, etc. ) 7) A common building in the middle of the academic and the student residential area is there for students and have almost all types of options ranging from south to north and east to west India. 8) Medical facilities: 24x7 hospital within the campus, free for students and staff (included in your fees, but practically free).
Faculty: 1) Professors are the best in probably all of India, but you need to put in efforts in their course as well do some research in the areas of their interest to get the most out of them. They are helping but have a serious shortage of time to address all of student's queries, hence sometimes they tend to address only the more important ones (which means those that align with their research interests of course more). 2) The course curriculum starts from the very basic but does not cover the very modern stages in terms of construction management, materials, etc. Though there are some elective courses which cover these too, but they need to be chosen by the students based on their interests, and not many opt for these. They tend to opt for courses that are more related to computer Science such as AI/ML in the construction industry, etc. 3) The semester exams are pretty easy to pass if you study well (off course with a few exceptions), but to score a 10-pointer, you really need to be well-versed in every topic taught in the class.
Other: This course has the following pros: 1) Compared to other courses offered at IIT Madras, this course enabled me to have a lot more free time (time apart from core academics) as the curriculum is designed in such as way, which gives the student a flexibility to explore other academic fields, other passions, and even other non-core business-related fields. 2) This dept. Is one of the oldest at IIT Madras and hence the Alumni base in all the sectors, be it academia, corporate, government. Is immense, and all of them are ready and willing to help you. You will probably find a stalwart in any sector you desire in this alum base and will be able to reach out via an email or LinkedIn message. That being said, there are a few cons as well: 1) The value of the course in itself is not much, and it is the value of the exposure, the peer group, and the network you develop here. But what you are actually learning in the classroom might not be useful to you in your life at a later point in time. 2) The number of students are very high (being one of the oldest dept. Here), hence if you do not really put in effort to learn, you might not really be learning something new here.

Q:   Is IIT JAM difficult?

A:

Experts share that the IIT JAM exam is difficult to clear. This is not because the difficulty level of the questions asked is very high but because the selection ratio through the IIT JAM exam is low. However, this does not mean that the questions asked in the exam are very easy.
