It provides bewildering placements for 2021.
Placements: I have talked with my placements coordinator of the engineering physics department and he told me that 22 students of EP applied for placements out of which 21 get placed. The average salary package offered is 20 LPA. Students of other departments also get good offers. Most of the students get into tech and finance giants. In the first phase of placements, around 73% of students are placed and the rest will surely place in phase 2 placements. The highest salary package offered is 1.7 crores offered by Uber and companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Paytm, Tower Research, etc.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of this college is excellent, and it has a bewildering campus. Wi-Fi speed is one of the fastest in India. In our college, there are laboratories for multiple things and all the laboratories are fully equipped and also promote the students to go into the research field. The library in IIT Madras is the largest in India, every type of book in different languages is available in the library. Books related to the courses are also available in our college so students do not need to buy books they can take them from the library.
Faculty: All the professors of IITM are well educated and qualified and have done Ph.D. in specific things. Students can mail the professors anytime they want to clarify their doubts, and professors eagerly wanted to clarify the doubts of students. The courses curriculum is also well defined. Mid-trimester exams are moderate, but one needs to listen to the professors and solve the assignments regularly and they will get good marks.

The review of Engineering physics at IIT, Madras.
Placements: The placement was pretty good for my batch as well as my senior batch. Most of the students got placed in data science/IT companies. A few of us were able to get core electrical engineering jobs. The average CTC was around 10-11 lakhs per annum for my batch. Since the students have to do a lot of math, physics and ECE courses were reasonably good at math and programming. This helped a lot in cracking data science and coding interviews.
Infrastructure: IITM is an institute of national importance infrastructure and facilities were top notch, but compared to other engineering departments, the quality of research was a bit bad at physics department. Engineering physics labs are not maintained properly.
Faculty: Students have to take an almost equal number of compulsory courses from physics as well as electrical departments. Only a handful of professors are good at physics department, but most of the electrical engineering professors are good and are doing cutting-edge research in their respective field.

Q:   How can I get admission in IIT Madras?

A:

To seek admission to the BTech programme offered at IIT Madras, candidates need to visit the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and fill out the application form in online mode for JEE Main. For other courses such as MSc, MTech, BS-MS (Dual Degree) etc., candidates must visit the official website of respective national-level entrance exam conducting bodies and fill out the application form in online mode. IIT Madras admission to most of the courses is entrance-based. For detailed information around IIT Madras course admission, click here.

Q:   Can I join a B.Sc course at IIT Madras without giving JEE?

A:

IIT Madras BSc admission is entrance-based as the institute primarily accepts the rank and scores of the JEE Main examination for admission to its full-time BSc programme. However, if candidates wish to apply for the integrated BS plus MS programme, then they can apply for admission through the scores of the IISER Aptitude Test. Therefore, you can join the BSc course at IIT Madras without giving the JEE.

Q:   Can we join IIT Madras without JEE?

A:

Yes, there are many other courses for which the selection criteria are different and the prescribed entrance exam is also other than JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced. Below are some of the courses offered at IIT Madras along with their eligibility criteria and entrance exam:

  • MTech: IIT Madras offers a two-year full-time M.Tech programme across various specialisations. The institute inducts candidates for the M.Tech programmes based on valid GATE scores followed by the counselling process.
  • MBA: For admission to the full-time two year MBA programme at IIT Madras, candidates are required to appear for the CAT exam. Candidates based on their CAT scores will be shortlisted for the Group Discussion & Personal Interview (PI) round.
  • MSc: IIT Madras accepts admission to the MSc programme based on a valid score/ rank in the IIT-JAM exam.

Q:   Is IIT JAM difficult?

A:

Experts share that the IIT JAM exam is difficult to clear. This is not because the difficulty level of the questions asked is very high but because the selection ratio through the IIT JAM exam is low. However, this does not mean that the questions asked in the exam are very easy.
