JNU: Where everybody gets a chance!
Placements: Companies like HSBC, EXL Analytics, Wells Fargo, IIP, The Economist, and Busara Centre visit the campus each year. Students have to go through written or computer based aptitude tests as well as interviews. Alumni networking is okay. The Placement Cell is well established for several years now. Wells Fargo, offered Analyst profile at 35000 p. m. It involved aptitude test plus several interview rounds.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is not very good. The library has been unsubscribing from journals due to lack of funds. Hostels also suffer from negligence. Recently, security has also been under-staffed. Wi-Fi facility is also not very good. The campus life here provides an absolutely unique experience. It's an extremely vibrant space, that upholds the ideals of debate and dissent.
Faculty: The structure of the course is quite different from all the other equivalent options I had. Moreover, the coursework really mends your mind to focus on reading a lot of research work. It is also very inspiring in terms of engaging with research yourself. The schedule for the week is not very hectic and leaves the students with enough time to engage in brain-jogging, self-studies as well as extra-curricular activities.
Other: Almost every event be it cultural, social, political or technical is celebrated in JNU. The students of JNU come from various backgrounds and to preseve this conglomeration, the different societies make sure to celebrate every event. According to me, coming to JNU has been a life-altering experience for me. It has taught to embrace people from different backgrounds equally and also lended me the confidence to speak out my mind, even when it is not a popular opinion, whenever I want to.

Our university has brilliant and humble faculty members.
Placements: Placement cell is good at our university. Economics is the only department having a placement cell. They are good and we have many opportunities but not great compared to other universities because this is a research-oriented university and gives more preference to higher studies. Companies like HSBC, EXL Analytics, Wells Fargo, IIP, and The Economist visit the campus each year.
Infrastructure: There are a lot of open houses where students get to interact with faculty members as seniors or juniors. Hostels are old and were built around 30-40 years ago but they are comfortable and give the whole feel of JNU. JNU hostels are famous for their liberal nature. JNU is one of the safest places in Delhi even at night. I feel that because of people and hostels. The hostel has a Wi-Fi facility. Mess food is better than that available in the PGs nearby.
Faculty: Faculty members of our university are well-qualified. We have professors who have been associated with great international universities and different international institutions such as ILO. They have been founders of internationally acclaimed journals themselves. Inspite of all this, faculty members are extremely warm and approachable. We have after-class contact hours, wherein, we can discuss anything apart from the course work. They are extremely sensitive and supportive. They try their best to accommodate any demands that students might have regarding syllabus, class schedule, exam time-tables, etc.
Other: Student diversity and tolerance is an altogether different experience at JNU. Right from the moment you enter the campus, you can feel that embracing warmth in the air. Nobody has to shy away from voicing their minds even if it speaks of dissent. Apart from the usual sports clubs such as football, cricket, tennis, etc., we also have a mountaineering club that organises yearly treks.

I am fully satisfied with the course, faculty members and campus.
Placements: Our college does not have a placement cell. However, we managed to invite some companies from our contacts. Only 5% of the students from our course got placed. The highest salary package offered was 8 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered was 4 LPA. Only 1 student fro,m our course got an internship in Dunnhumby. The post offered to them was of business and economic analyst. However, after the course, students got placed in some reputed government posts like in RBI, IES, etc.
Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure available in our college were very good. The whole campus is Wi-Fi enabled. The library was huge and 7 storeys with all kinds of journals, newspapers, books and editorials. I was a day scholar, and I visited the hostel some times with my friends. The hostel was very cheap.
Faculty: Faculty members in our college were good. The course curriculum was very good. Faculty members in our college were even better than DU teachers. They were well educated. They provide practical knowledge. They also know how to transfer their knowledge to students. Here I have learned the concept of the open-book exam.
Other: I pursued B.A. economics from Delhi University after that I have planned to do Masters for which I have given entrance exams of some universities, so I have got selected in Jawaharlal Nehru University. Inclusion of more mathematics and statistics application-based programme would improve the course.

Other: It is one of the best universities in India. Some of the courses are counted as the best on world level. It is politically a very vibrant and active campus. Jawaharlal Nehru University has given world class political leaders, social scientists and administrators to country. This is close campus having seventeen hostels for both genders. There is also graduation level entry in different foreign language course like Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Persian, Pushtu, Russian, French, German and Spanish. It is a hub for research work in science as well as social science students. The faculty is world class here .There are many MoU signed between JNU and other foreign universities for research and exchange programs. The central library of JNU is very big and has a very large and wide area of books and journals. The best part of this university is that it is almost pollution free due to its green environment. JNU is also famous for their eatery spots which are open almost all night.

Students also asked

Q:   Can I get admission to JNU without CUET?

A:

To get admission at Jawaharlal Nehru University, candidates must visit the official website of the University (jnu.ac.in) or NTA for course-wise admission criteria. JNU admission to most of the UG, PG and Diploma courses are based on candidates' performance in the CUET-UG & CUET-PG scores. For admission to JNU BA (Hons.) in Foreign Languages, BSc.-MSc Integrated programme in Ayurveda Biology and Certificate of Proficiency courses, JNU accepts CUET-UG. For JNU PG courses including MTech, MPH, MA, MSc, MCA and PG Diploma in Big Data, admission is based on CUET-PG scores. For JNU MBA admission 2025, CUET-PG is not valid and is dependent on CAT scores.

Q:   Is JNU better than DU?

A:

As per the NIRF 2024 rankings, JNU is ranked 2nd, while DU is ranked 6th under 'University' category. This clearly suggests that JNU is a better university overall. However, these rankings are based on a variety of factors. Furthermore, the best university for a student will depend on the individual needs and preferences. Here is the comparison of JNU and DU based on some key factors:

  • Academics: JNU is known for its strong academics and research focus. It has a number of world-renowned faculty members, and its students have gone on to achieve great things in their careers. DU is also a good university academically, but it is not as research-intensive as JNU.
  • Campus Life: JNU has a vibrant campus life with a strong student union. There are many student organizations and activities, and the university has a reputation for being a hotbed of political activism. DU also has a good campus life, but it is not as political as JNU.
  • Location: JNU is located in South Delhi, while DU is spread out across the city. This means that JNU students have a more central location, while DU students have more options when it comes to choosing a college or hostel.
  • Fees: The fees at JNU are lower than the fees at DU. This is because JNU is a central university, while DU is a state university.

Q:   Is M.Sc. at JNU a good choice?

A:
{Source: M.Sc. students & alumni}

Here's what current students and alumni have to say:

Pros:

* Excellent Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified, knowledgeable, and supportive. They provide great lessons, and practical classes are helpful.
* Good Infrastructure: The university has a great campus with modern facilities, including a state-of-the-art library, laboratories, and hostel amenities.
* Placements: While the placement rate may vary across departments, some students reported getting internships and even job offers from reputed companies like D.E. Shaw, Deloitte USI, and McKinsey & Company.
* Scholarships: The university offers scholarships to deserving students.
* Campus Life: Students enjoy a lively campus culture with regular events, festivals, and sports competitions.

Cons:

* Limited Placements: Not all students get placed immediately after completing their degree, although some do secure internships.
* Old Curriculum: Some students felt that the course curriculum could be updated to include more industrial exposure.
* Hostel Conditions: Although the hostel facilities are generally good, some students mentioned that they needed improvement.
* Facilities for Research Students: Limited research opportunities and resources might affect students' ability to pursue higher degrees.

Overall Assessment: Based on the feedback from students and alumni, pursuing an M.Sc. at JNU seems like a good choice for those interested in academics, research, and networking. While the placement record may not be stellar, the university's strong reputation, excellent faculty, and vibrant campus atmosphere make it an attractive option. However, potential students should weigh these pros against the cons and consider whether JNU aligns with their individual goals and expectations.
