Here are a few tips that will help you prepare for TANCET exam in three months.

How to Crack TANCET in Three Months

Understanding TANCET Exam Pattern

An aspirant should first go through the exam pattern to understand the marking scheme, subjects, and weightage of each subject in the exam.  There are seven courses prescribed under the TANCET exam. The question paper for MTech, ME, MArch, MPlan programmes will consist of 115 questions divided into three sections, while MBA and MCA & MCA (LE) courses will have 100 questions divided into five and four parts, respectively. Check below for more details on the TANCET exam pattern

Q:   What is considered a good attempt in the TANCET exam?

A:

If a candidate has attempted around 80 out of the 100 questions with 80 to 85  accuracy, that is considered a  good attempt. However, the percentile score may vary depending upon the number of test takers and performance of all the candidates in the TANCET exam. Candidates must try to attempt all the questions where they know the answers and incorrect responses will also lead to deduction of marks, which in turn decreases the percentile score.

Q:   How much should I score on the TANCET to get into the best colleges?

A:
According to the previous year's trends, you need to score above the 90 percentile to get into top colleges. According to the seat allotment rank and scores, here is the list of colleges with their required scores: 1. PSG College of Technology: 94.95 2. University of Madras, Chennai: 95.76 3. Thiagarajar School of Management, Madurai: 95.76 4. Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering: 96.87 5. University Departments of Anna University: 99.41 You can check the score required to get into your dream college at this page: https://www.shiksha.com/mba/tancet-exam-cutoff.

Q:   What is the difficulty level of TANCET exam?

A:

TANCET exam is considered moderate in terms of difficulty. For MBA exams, the difficulty standards is typically compared with the CAT exam. In comparison with the CAT difficulty level, TANCET is considered easy to crack. This is because the total number of test takers is less if compared to CAT exam, additionally, the difficulty level of the questions asked is easier than the CAT exam.

Cover TANCET syllabus

Aspirants should go through the TANCET syllabus for their respective courses and devise a plan accordingly. Candidates can start with their weak subjects and should not lose time in getting the queries sorted. Simultaneously, one should be mindful enough to keep practising the subject that he or she considers easier. If a candidate is good at maths, it will take lesser time for him to cover the aptitude and DI sections. Similarly, if a candidate regularly reads, sailing through the Reading comprehension and English Usage section would be easier.

TANCET Syllabus for MBA

TANCET Syllabus for MCA and MCA (LE)

TANCET syllabus for MTech, ME, MArch, MPlan

  • Engineering Mathematics
  • Basic Engineering & Sciences
  • Basic Engineering & Sciences

Take online mock tests: Practising mocks comes with its benefit. In the initial phase, it will help an aspirant find his weak links. Once he finishes the conceptual problems and brushes up on his basics, a candidate can focus on speed and accuracy. Aspirants should also solve previous year's TANCET question papers to better understand the exam pattern. By taking mocks in the stipulated time, an aspirant will also learn to handle pressure and ace time management.

Stay motivated and confident: It often happens we start our preparation with a lot of enthusiasm but after a few days, we tend to lose focus owing to lethargy or confusion but a candidate who learns to overcome these little hurdles has a better chance to make it through the exam. If you have 90 days to prepare for an exam, every single day you need to keep your motivation level high and invest your time in the best possible manner.

Q:   Is it easy to get high scores in TANCET exam?

A:

Yes, it is easy to get high scores in TANCET exam to meet the cutoff scores. All what needs to be done is hard work. Every exam is easy or tough based on the overall preparation. The TANCET question pattern is simple if compared with other MBA entrance exams including, CAT XAT CMAT etc. TANCET MBA has five sections with 20 marks for each section. Additionally, all the sections have equal number of questions. The sections appearing in TANCET MBA exam include:

  • Section 1 - Business Situations
  • Section 2 - Reading Comprehension
  • Section 3 - Quantitative Ability
  • Section 4 - Data Sufficiency
  • Section 5 English Usage

Candidates preparing as per the TANCET exam pattern and syllabus will not face any issues to meet the TANCET cutoff rank/scores.

Q:   Is the syllabus for CAT and TANCET same? Can I prepare for TANCET exam using CAT study material such as mock tests and question papers?

A:

CAT is a national level exam for MBA admission, while TANCET is a state level exam for MBA admission. Syllabus for both CAT and TANCET are on a similar lies with slight changes in the sections. TANCET exam includes an additional section for Business Situation analysis. Candidates who have prepared for CAT exams section, including DILR, VARC, and QA, need a minimal study plan to prepare for TANCET. Candidates who took the CAT exam must drive deeper into the section for analysis of business situations. Study material, including books, question type remains similar for CAT and TANCET exam.

Practising mock tests for CAT and TANCET must be done individual as the difficult standards, exam duration, number of questions and other elements of test pattern will vary. Mock test will provide a better understanding of taking TANCET and CAT exam.

Q:   Which section of the TANCET exam has the highest weightage?

A:

The TANCET exam has five sections, namely,

  1. Business Situations
  2. Reading Comprehension
  3. Quantitative Ability
  4. Data Sufficiency
  5. English Usage

As per the TANCET exam pattern, a total of 100 questions are asked collectively from all sections of the TANCET exam. All five section of TANCET MBA exam have equal weightage. Therefore, candidates have to answer a total of 20 questions, irrespective of the section. Since all sections of the TANCET exam have equal weightage, candidates must take all sections seriously. Each section of TANCET exam holds identical importance.

Q:   Can you suggest some preparation strategies for TANCET MBA? How much do I need to score to join Madras University?

A:
Some tips one should consider: Prepare all the topics listed in the syllabus. In case a topic gets left out, candidates will risk their chances of obtaining a high score. Avoid picking a new topic. Candidates must also select appropriate study material as it will help them understand the structure of entrance test. Avoid any kind of guesswork. Negative marking is applicable in the exam and it is better to leave those questions whose answers candidates are unable to determine with conviction. Take as many mock tests as possible before the actual day of the test. Mock tests help candidates identify their strong and weak areas. Mocks give them the chance to strengthen those weak areas. Prepare a schedule which must be followed religiously. By the time the exam day arrives, candidates will become skilled at allotting equal time to each section of the test. Vocabulary is an integral part of any entrance test these days and candidates are advised to strengthen it as much as they can. It is advised that they read as many newspapers as they can daily and mark down words they have unknown so far and then check for their meaning.

Q:   How can I perform well in English section of TANCET exam?

A:

TANCET exam's English Proficiency section is further divided into two sub-sections. These sub-sections include Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability followed by General English which evaluates the grammatical skills of the candidate. Candidates should develop a habit of reading newspapers, magazines and books to have a better understanding of English Knowledge. They can also refer to High School Grammar by Wren and Martin for developing a strong foundation. Basic Grammar forms the base of this examination and a candidate should be good in basic grammar such as Articles, Parts of Speech, Tense, etc. A candidate needs to read the basic grammar books and can also learn the rules of grammar online by practicing more. Following areas require candidate's attention to score well in the TANCET English section:

  • Vocabulary
  • Synonyms and Antonyms
  • One word Substitutions
  • Idioms and Phrases
  • Spotting Errors

Keep learning tricks and shortcuts: To get a good score in TANCET 2024, it is imperative for an aspirant to learn the quickest and surest way to solve answers. In the aptitude and reasoning sections, various shortcut methods would come in handy in solving problems. Additionally, an aspirant should work to increase his calculation speed, it is advisable that a candidate should keep away from using calculating devices while solving problems.

Revision:  Revision is the most important part of the preparation period. All efforts may not turn into a good score, if one fails to revise the topics s/he has toiled through the preparation period.  Even if you have been able to cover 2/3rd of the syllabus in 45 days, it is important to revise this part even as you continue to learn new topics. Building on your strengths while covering new ground is the best way to prepare for an exam. Here is what you can do for a thorough revision

  • Revise important concepts, theorem and topic-wise formulae
  • Focus on points that have not been practised enough
  • Never revise the entire syllabus in one go, divide time for each subject and revise accordingly
