SBI Clerk Normalisation Process

In SBI Clerk exam, normalisation is an important aspect. The prelims and mains exams of SBI Clerk are held in various shifts, therefore, normalisation is applied. SBI Clerk normalisation is done since there is some variation in the level of difficulty among with the shifts. SBI uses SBI Clerk normalisation to deal with the type of fluctuation. To balance the candidate’s marks, SBI Clerk normalisation is followed which helps in adjusting the scores of all candidates. Banking exams that are conducted in different shifts do follow the normalisation process to normalise the marks secured by candidates. SBI Clerk exam is conducted to select candidates for the post of Junior Associates (Customer Support & Sales). In this article, we have explained regarding SBI Clerk normalisation.

What is SBI Clerk Normalisation and Why it is Done?

Normalisation is the methodology that it is used in the competitive exams because the online test is conducted in various shifts. This is done to evaluate the performance of candidates on the basis of similar exam parameters, particularly difficulty level. SBI Clerk exam is conducted in multiple shifts. Each slot has a different sectional and overall level, as well as different topics. In one slot, the questions may be easier, while in the other, questions may be more challenging.

SBI normalises the scores achieved by students in different shifts for fair declaration of exam results. The goal of SBI Clerk normalisation is to adjust the difficulty level of the exam across multiple sessions.

How SBI Clerk Normalisation is Done?

SBI Clerk normalisation is done using the equi-percentitle method. The normalisation is done through the following process:

The percentile rank of the candidate is calculated using the below formulae:

Candidate’s percentile rank= {(Total number of students in a slot)-(Rank of the candidate in that slot)/ (Total number of students in a slot – 1)} x 100

After this, cut off  percentile rank is determined based on the number of SBI Clerk vacancies

Candidates are shortlisted for the next round of selection process based on the cutoff marks

Benefits of SBI Clerk Normalisation

SBI Clerk normalisation plays an important role in the selection of candidates. SBI Clerk exam is conducted in different shifts with different difficulty levels. Therefore, balancing candidates score is very much important to have a fair evaluation. For more than one shift, SBI follows equi-percentile method to normalise the marks secured by candidates. Let us consider two shifts in SBI Clerk. For Shift 1, let’s say five students appeared for the exam.

Now, for shift 2, let's say 8 students appeared for the exam.

SBI Clerk cutoff is calculated based on the normalisation. Let us assume the cutoff is set at 43 per cent. Students from all shifts will qualify for the exam if they achieve 43 percent or higher on the percentile scale. If we look at the above shifts, we can see that A, B, C, P, Q, R, and S will pass the exam, while D, E, T, U, V, and W will not.

How SBI Clerk Normalisation Helps?

SBI Clerk normalisation methodology is done to normalise candidates’ score. As a result if a particular shift is difficult in comparison to others, the applicants performance is fairly evaluated.
