The Eligibility Criteria for TNTET Paper 1 and Paper 2

Tamil Nadu Recruitment Board conducts a teacher eligibility test commonly known as the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) for candidates who want to become a teacher in primary and upper primary schools of Tamil Nadu. TNTET is conducted every year for eligible and aspiring candidates. To apply for TNTET the candidates need to satisfy various eligibility criteria. TNTET Eligibility Criteria 2022  

The TNTET exam is divided into two papers which are paper 1 and paper 2. The paper 1 exam is taken to check the eligibility of the candidates to teach in classes from 1 to 5 (primary school). On the other hand, paper 2 is taken to check the eligibility of candidates to teach in classes from 6 to 8 (upper primary schools). The eligibility criteria for paper 1 and paper 2 have been provided below for the candidates who want to appear in TNTET 2022 exam.  

Q:   How many papers does one need to give to qualify the TNTET exam?

A:

Candidates planning to teach Classes 1 to 5 need to qualify TNTET Paper 1. Candidates planning to teach Classes 6 to 8 need to qualify for TNTET Paper 2. Candidates planning to teach Classes 1 to 8 need to qualify both papers. The candidates have to apply for the papers according to their eligibility set by the board. The educational qualification criteria has been given below for the candidates:

Paper 1

a) Class 12 with minimum 50 per cent marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education

b) Class 12 with minimum 50 per cent marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4 years Bachelor of Elementary Education (BElEd)

Paper 2

a) Graduation with a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education. Graduation with minimum 50 per cent marks and passed or appearing in one-year B.Ed.

Q:   What are the qualifying marks for TNTET exam?

A:

The candidates have to secure the marks given in the table in order to qualify for the TNTET exam:

Q:   Can I apply for the TNTET exam, If I have a B.Ed degree?

A:

Yes, if you have completed a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree, you are eligible to appear for TNTET for the upper primary level (Classes VI-VIII). To be eligible for TNTET, you must have a Bachelor's degree and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) or a Bachelor's degree and a 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) or a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) or a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education). So, if you have completed your B.Ed degree, you can meet the educational qualification criteria for TNTET. However, you need to check other eligibility criteria such as nationality, age limit, etc. before applying for the exam.

TNTET Eligibility for Paper 1  

The paper 1 eligibility has been given below for the candidates who want to teach in the primary schools of Tamil Nadu state. The candidate who will not satisfy the eligibility criteria of the TNTET will not be permitted to apply for TNTET application.

TNTET Paper 1 Educational Qualification  

The detailed paper 1 educational qualification eligibility has been given below for TNTET 2022 exam: 

  • Candidates must have passed Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with a minimum of 50 per cent scores and passed or appeared in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education  

Or, 

  • Graduation with minimum 50 per cent aggregate marks and passed or appearing in the final year of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.,)  

Or,  

  • Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with a minimum of 45 per cent score and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year diploma in Elementary Education by the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002  

Or, 

  • Candidate should have a certificate of Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with a minimum of 50 per cent marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)  

Or, 

  • Candidates must hold a degree of Graduation and pass or appear in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education. 

TNTET Paper 1 Age Limit  

The candidates applying for the TNTET paper1 must be above 18 years of age. There is no upper age limit to appear in the TNTET exam.

TNTET Eligibility for Paper 2  

The candidates who want to be a teacher in upper primary schools of Tamil Nadu have to take the TNTET paper 2 exam. The candidates who do not satisfy the educational qualification and age eligibility for the TNTET paper 2 will not be allowed to take the TNTET 2022 paper 2 exam.  

Q:   Is there any restriction on the number of attempts for the TNTET exam?

A:
No, you can apply and appear for the TNTET exam for any number of times till you attain the desired scores. The TNTET Certificate is valid for a lifetime according to the norms of NCTE. Though, the candidates can take the TNTET exam to upgrade their marks. The guidelines have been given below for the candidates to take the TNTET exam: 
  • The candidates must fulfill the educational qualification criteria to take the exam The age of the candidates cannot be less than 18 years There is no upper age limit to take the TNTET exam The candidates can take the TNTET exam as many times as they want as there is no restrictions in taking the exam again.

Q:   How can I get a job after TNTET?

A:

After you qualify the TNTET exam, you are awarded the eligibility Certificate. TNTET does not guarantee any job after the candidate qualifies the exam. Though, the candidates will become eligible for the recruitment exam after qualifying for the TNTET exam. The recruitment exam for recruiting teachers in the school of Tamil Nadu. The candidates can apply for the different vacancies according to their eligibility. The Tamil Nadu government releases the vacancies for the teachers according to the need of the state.

Q:   Am I eligible for TNTET if I've completed my B.Ed?

A:

Yes, if you have completed a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree, you are eligible to appear for TNTET for the upper primary level (Classes VI-VIII). To be eligible for TNTET, you must have a Bachelor's degree and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) or a Bachelor's degree and a 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) or a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) or a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).

So, if you have completed your B.Ed degree, you can meet the educational qualification criteria for TNTET. However, you need to check other eligibility criteria such as nationality, age limit, etc. before applying for the examination.

Q:   Will I get the teaching job after clearing the TNTET exam?

A:

Clearing the TNTET exam does not mean a guaranteed job to any candidate. It is just an eligibility exam post which, you can apply for the post of teacher in the schools of Tamul Nadu. The candidates have to appear for the recruitment exams in order to get the teacher's job. The recruitment is done by the State Pblic Service Commission. The qualified candidates will be offered two positions that are: primary teachers (class 1 to 5) and upper primary teacher (class 6 to 8).

TNTET Paper 2 Educational Qualification  

The detailed educational qualification needed to appear in the TNTET 2022 exam for paper 2 has been given below: 

Applicants must have a graduation degree and are appearing or have passed a 2-year diploma in elementary education 

Or, 

candidate must be a Graduate with a minimum score of 50 per cent marks and passed or appearing in the final year of B.Ed  

Or, 

Candidate should have passed Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with a minimum of 50 per cent score and have passed or appearing in the final year of B.El.Ed. 

Or, 

Candidates should be graduate degree holders with a minimum of 50 per cent marks and pass or appear in the final year of B.Ed. can also apply for TNTET 2022 (or) 

The candidate who is a Graduation degree holder with the least 45 per cent marks can apply for the TNTET 2022. The candidates who have qualified or appearing in the final year of B.Ed. are also eligible to apply 

Or, 

Any candidate who has qualified B.Ed. The program, affiliated with the NCTE, is eligible to appear in TNTET 2022. 

TNTET Paper 2 Age Limit  

The candidates applying for TNTET paper 2 must be above 18 years of age. There is no upper age limit to appear in the TNTET exam.
