Question: Is BHU good for M.Sc?

    Answer:

    * Placements: Placements in BHU's Mathematics department are limited, with no official placements arranged by the department. However, students can secure placements on their own, with packages ranging from INR5-6 LPA.
    * Faculty: Teachers in the department are highly qualified, knowledgeable, and helpful. They encourage new ideas and are available for doubt-clearing sessions.
    * Curriculum: The course curriculum is designed to help students crack competitive exams like NET/JRF, IIT JAM, and others.
    * Infrastructure: Bhartiya Vidya Peetha's infrastructure is good, with Wi-Fi connectivity, modern classrooms, and state-of-the-art labs.
    * Campus Life: Campus life is vibrant, with numerous festivals and events celebrated throughout the year.
    * Career Opportunities: Career prospects in mathematics are good, especially in industries like finance, insurance, and research.

    BHU: The Beauty of Banaras.
Placements: At the Department of Mathematics, Institute of Science, placements are not much encouraged. In my time, 4 students were placed with a package of 5 to 6 Lacs in a batch of 120. But now they have a placement cell where you have to join, and they mostly call companies from the edtech sector. However, in other departments like Zoology, Botany, and Chemistry, placements are good. In my department, they do not offer too many internships; during my time, there was only one, which was Vedic Mathematics. But there is IIT BHU, where you can apply for internships in the Department of Mathematics.
Infrastructure: The M.Sc. in Mathematics is a 2-year course, consisting of 4 semesters. Exams are held semester-wise. For 20 marks, they hold a mid-semester exam after 2 months from the start of the semester, 10 marks are given for attendance and class performance, and then 70 marks for the end-semester exam. The department has its own library with enough mathematics books, and there is also a computer lab with more than 50 computers. Hostel facilities are very good and are cleaned regularly. Wi-Fi is available in both the hostel and the department. There are 2 to 3 messes and 1 to 2 canteens in the hostels.
Faculty: Faculty members are well-qualified and come from IISC and IITs. The teaching quality is very good. Some professors are rude, but that number is very small. Teachers are very helpful for your future life. The course is mainly focused on research and teaching, but it does not make you industry-ready. The semester exams are tough, and that is required because the course has a very good value in IITs and other high-ranked institutes. But you can get good marks by studying 2 to 3 hours daily and 7 to 10 hours before exams. Solving previous year papers makes it easy.
Other: I chose this university because it is in the top 5 ranked universities in India and in the top 15 worldwide. The course is designed for research and teaching. They teach some research topics. There are some very good professors like Ashish Kumar Upadhyay (Ph.D., IISC), Harish Chandra, Krishnendu Bhattacharya, Akhilesh Yadav, Shyam Lal, and many others. If the course had a project in the last semester with presentations, it would help students more for industry and research and provide a variety of career options. Aakansha is held every year in January and February, featuring events like dancing, singing, poetry, essay writing, and quizzes. Every year, a sports program is held at the Institute of Science, covering all the games like cricket, kabaddi, football, badminton, volleyball, etc.

    M.Sc. in Physics - Batch of 2026

    4.8
    4Placements5Infrastructure5Faculty5Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
I am satisfied with this college as its faculty members are very good.
Placements: M.Sc. Physics is a two-year course. The highest salary package offered in M.Sc. Physics was 1.20 CPA in 2023. The average salary package offered is 8 LPA. Mainly EDU tech companies like PW, Fiitjee, Unacademy, etc., visit our college to hire students for M.Sc. Physics. There is a batch of 25 students only.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi connection is available everywhere like in classrooms and hostels 24/7. There is a library named Shreeniwas Das Central Library where you can borrow only two books on your core subject and two any other books. The quality of the mess food is very good. A canteen is available in every hostel. Machines are also installed in every hostel.
Faculty: Teachers of IIT BHU are very friendly and supportive. They clear students' doubts at any time. They don't judge students based on their doubts. This course is mainly theoretical and for higher studies. Semester exams are of moderate level. Students can easily pass their exams as there is a relative marking system.
Other: There are various events like Kashiyatra, etc. It is a cultural fest held in January. IIT BHU Campus is an open campus that everyone comes here and enjoys.

Average satisfaction from the institution; faculty members & infrastructure are also not that great.
Placements: There are around 45-50 students in our batch every year, out of which only a few of them got placements. The placement record is quite poor for our department. The highest off-campus placement so far is around 13 LPA, and the lowest is around 3 LPA. The top roles offered to us are Data Analyst and Teacher.
Infrastructure: The hostels are provided only to 1/4 of the total students enrolled in the course. The infrastructure of the hostels is also very old and not functioning properly. The mess is okay, and the food provided in the mess is average. Medical facilities are available for the students.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful to the students. They are all highly educated and knowledgeable. The course curriculum is quite impressive and professional, and the teaching quality is also good. This course is fully designed to make students industry-ready. The difficulty level of the exams at our institution is moderate.

Really amazing facilities and infrastructure of the department, but hostel facilities are average.
Placements: During my time in this university, 10-15% of students got placed in teaching fields mostly. The average package was 6-7 lacs p.a. Top recruiting companies were educator companies. A very few percentage of students got internships from my course. I don’t have enough knowledge about roles offered.
Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure available for this course are really amazing and helpful during the entire journey of the course. If I talk about facilities like Wi-Fi connectivity, labs, classrooms, and the library, all meet the criteria to be superb. Hostel facilities like mess food and canteen are average. However, medical facilities, sports, and games are really good.
Faculty: Teachers and staff are really helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable, and teaching quality is really superb. Course curriculum is really important, so yes, it makes students industry-ready. The semester exams are not easy in this university, and the pass percentage is 40%.
Other: I enjoyed the environment of the campus.

    Good infrastructure and faculty.
Placements: If you're coming for placements, then Banaras Hindu University isn't a top-tier placement giver. Although the highest package in the case of Botany goes up to 9-10 LPA, the placement percentage is low. Mostly, Edtech companies come for placements in Botany, such as Allen, Aakash, Unacademy, etc.
Infrastructure: The department is good. Classrooms contain A.C., although labs haven't A.C. yet, but they are clean and well-ventilated. Free Wi-Fi is available. Water coolers are available, which are in fully working condition. A departmental library is there, which contains all the necessary books. The library is also air-conditioned. A proper garden with a fountain is there, with a vehicle garage. There is also a botanical garden that is maintained by our department.
Faculty: Mixed faculty is there; some of them are too good and knowledgeable, while some of them are average. I won't say that the curriculum makes students industry-ready, as there are a lack of some topics that are more relevant in modern industries. Semester exams are difficult—not too much, but yes. Although the passing percentage is high.
Other: This course was chosen by me because I was interested in Botany from a long way back, and in India, Banaras Hindu University is currently #1 in studies on Botany. Campus life is too good here—close campus, free health facility, free Wi-Fi, free gym, swimming facility, all are available. The campus is neat and clean. There are several playing grounds providing facilities to play all kinds of games. The campus is ragging-free and safe. Fests are minimal here, but events are frequent in departments and hostels.

The Dream University: Banaras Hindu University.
Placements: There is no placement in the mathematics department. One may get off-campus placements on his or her own but there is no such placement on the department's side. If you are looking for placement, then statistics, or DST CIMS, is for you. The mathematics department provides absolutely zero placement.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is top-notch, the library is great, and classrooms are also cool. The library has a plethora of books and every book has multiple copies, enabling high availability of them. The latest editions are also available in the library. Classrooms are equipped with smart boards and projectors, enabling professors to reach every student easily in large classes.
Faculty: The teachers are very helpful and knowledgeable. They are available for doubt-solving at any hour. The HOD of mathematics department is very helpful and new thoughts are always encouraged. syllabus is basically pure-based but applied part is also taught enough. syllabus is humongous, and it may seem that students have to cover a lot in a short time. The syllabus is designed to help students crack exams like NET JRF, etc. Recently, a student got AIR 2 in IIT JAM 2024. Semester exams are very difficult, and student need to be very thorough in the topics to pass the exams. Pass percentage is a bit low in PG, as in it is around 50 percent or less.
