Nice institute, but it needs more improvement.
Placements: Placement is good at Banaras Hindu University, but not in the Department of Physics. Here, placement opportunities are very low. Some coaching institutes take candidates from here, but the number of positions is very low, and the offered salary is also average.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is good, but not very good. It needs to be improved. There is free wi-fi all around the campus. Smart classrooms, good labs, etc. are there. But they need proper maintenance. Hostels are average. Most of the time, there is a problem with good-quality food.
Faculty: The teaching quality and teaching style of some faculty members are really good. While a few teachers are not able to make students understand what they are teaching, which is common in almost every institute,. But they are very helpful. The office staff and lab attendants are very good. Exams are quite tough.

My dream come true when I joined BHU in 2013.
Placements: There are no placement opportunities available for the students after the completion of their M.Sc. in BHU because our HOD always try to improve academic skills of students by encouraging the students to go for higher studies like PhD or M.Tech. Only five students from our batch have joined the private coaching centres like Bansal Classes, JRS, and Residence, etc., as a faculty member. Most of the students of our batch, including me, have been pursuing our PhDs.
Infrastructure: Although the building was old, it's attracting new students very well. Overall, the infrastructure of our college is good. The classes are conducted in the main building which has a lot of amenities like clean classrooms, good projectors and many ACs which works well during Summer as the temperatures are very high during the Summer season here.
Faculty: There are around 40 faculty members present here, and all of them are highly talented. The course curriculum is designed in such a way that it's very useful for all competitive exam. The main exam is conducted in the second semester of each academic year.
Other: There are around 35,000 students present here along with 2,000 faculty members.

How is the department of physics at Banaras Hindu University.
Placements: There is no special placement cell available, students can opt for general placements of the whole University, if you want placement then geophysics department has campus placements, but physics has not any placement cell, for placement you have to sit in general placement which happens for every department and not particularly for your physics trade.
Infrastructure: The building here are old, but they have a sense of history attached to them, the classrooms are old few halls have AC in them, Labs are also old and not so good, Wi-Fi is available in class and labs, hostles are all good but mess food is not that good, Wi-Fi is there in hostles too, there is problem of sanity in hostles as there is no regular cleaning of toilets.
Faculty: The course here is pretty rigorous, you have to study a lot, the faculty is good old teachers are excellent, young teachers are not that good, syllabus and lab works are a bit hard, Few teachers are very friendly, but few will run after your life so be prepared for both these things, the course is very good if you want to do research in physics.
Other: Two fest happen in every year, Aakansha and Spandan, other than that there is fest in every department that you can attend, surroundings are pretty good as Varanasi is city of temples, the life at campus is good.

BHU is the biggest university. Students come from different states of India.
Placements: I have completed my M.Sc. in Phyiscs. So I am doing preparation for CSIR NET. Some students have been placed in Axis Institute and some are doing PhD in BHU by qualifying RET examination which is conducted by BHU itself for PhD admission. Some qualified JRF and GATE for getting admission to IITs.
Infrastructure: The classroom was very good. There were two libraries, the first one is the department library and the second one is the central library. The central library opens for 24 hours where can go to study anytime. Wi-Fi was free for students in whole campus. The labs were very good, and I have learnt a lot of experience in my special paper in a lab. I lived in the Dalmia hostel. Since BHU is the oldest so the hostel was the oldest but all facilities are provided by the warden. there was no problem with anything and the mess and medical support were good. It was helpful for treating ill students. And there is one canteen where everything was available. We used to bring breakfast in the canteen because mess provided lunch and dinner only. There was a big ground for playing games and sports also.
Faculty: The teachers were very good and they explain to us in a very good manner. Their teaching quality was good. Students learn a lot of things from labs. We have to spend 3 hours in labs and from 9 am to 1 pm classes are conducted. And after that, we have to go for the dissertation. Overall, most of the time is spent in study.
Other: Every student was very good in conversation and holding talks with one another. There were very pleasant surroundings with a lot of trees on camous.

I'm fully satisfied with what I got in BHU. You can't expect better labs and hostel in every place.
Placements: Our batch contains 69 students. The highest CGPA in our college was 8.45, while the lowest CGPA was around 5.00. My CGPA was 8.09. It is a degree course, so the campus recruitment process is not available here. However, one student got a job in Akash institute with the salary package of around 6 LPA, but he got it through off-campus. No special company visited here to recruit physics students. Most of them are searching for jobs, while others are trying to get enrolled in PhD.
Infrastructure: Lab and hostel infrastructure of our college is at its top level. There are 24 hours of Wi-Fi facility in the hostel, classrooms and everywhere. Our college has one of the huge libraries. There are also sports and games facilities in all departments, and you must be satisfied here. Our college also has one of the huge hospitals in the state. So you can imagine the infrastructure of our college.
Faculty: Teachers in our department are very helpful and also qualified, and they acquire a huge knowledge. Some teachers did a PhD from Oxford University, so their knowledge and qualifications are good. Many students are ready for the industry. Although it is a research-oriented degree course, lab facility is more than good, which help students to work better and contribute something to our society.
Other: Physics is one kind of subject where you get satisfaction and where an understanding invention is very natural to occur. So, it's one of the finest subjects over the entire world. I want to contribute to material science, so it's necessary to know about basic things, so I have chosen physics. The best things about our course are new things which I learn about QFT and nanomaterials. The course can be improved by an equal contribution from both sides, i.e., students and professors. More than enough events and fests are organised here, and the campus crowd is more than enough. I got inspire scholarship, and many students got around 25 some scholarships.

The cut-off for M.Sc physics at BHU is 257 rank for general and for OBC is 80 rank, with your general and OBC rank, it will be quite difficult to be called for counselling.
