Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Do I need 75% to get into DTU?

A:

For admission to most of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered at Delhi Technological University, students are required to score 50% to 60% minimum aggregate in their last qualifying degree or course to be eligible. A course-wise list of eligibility criteria for DTU admission is mentioned in the following table:

Course NameEligibility Criteria
BTech

Class 12 with 60%

BDes

A pass in Class 12

BBA

Class 12 with 50%

MSc

Class 12 with 50% in Economics
MTech

Relevant UG degree with at least 60%

MDes

4-year UG with 55%

E-MBA

Any UG degree with 60%

E-MBAUG degree with 50%

MSc

Relevant BSc/ UG degree with 55%

E-MBA

UG degree with 50%

PhD

Relevant PG degree with 55%

Hence, as per the table, it can be concluded that while all 75% scorers will be preferred at DTU, the minimum requirement to get admission and be eligible for DTU admission is comparatively low.

Q:   How can I get admission in DTU?

A:

To get admission to BTech at DTU, go to the site of JAC Delhi and register yourself and according to the schedule attend the counseling. On the day of counseling bring all the required certificates as mentioned on the website of JAC Delhi. The list will come out on the website itself and you are done after paying all the fees. The admission is solely dependent on the rank in JEE MAIN. Check all the cutoffs of the previous years before attending the counselling.

Q:   I have scored less than 60% in 12th boards. Can I get admission for B.Tech at DTU?

A:

To be eligible for applying to BTech admission at DTU, candidates must meet the minimum eligibility criteria specified by the university. For BTech admission, a candidate must have passed Class 12 with minimum 60%  aggregate with PCM and English Core as subjects. The minimum aggregate for various reserved categories is 50%-55%. Hence, whether the candidate is eligible to apply for BTech admission at DTU depends on their reservation category.

However, meeting the eligibility criteria does not gurantee admission at the university. The seat allocation is based on the applicant's score in JEE Main, followed by the JAC couselling. In case a candidate fails to secure a seat for BTech at DTU, they can check out other colleges offering ofline and online BTech courses.

Q:   Can I get admission in DTU? I have not appeared for JEE mains.

A:

The admission criteria for BTech at DTU clearly state that JEE Mains rank is considered for the selection of eligible candidates. Therefore, it is suggested to get qualifying scores at JEE Mains for admission at DTU. Additionally, students are also required to go through the JAC counselling process to get a seat at Delhi Technological University. After the result of JEE Main, JAC counselling for seat allotment is usually conducted in four rounds. However, there are additional spot rounds conducted for vacant seats (if available).

Q:   Is there an entrance conducted by DTU for admission?

A:

No, DTU does not conduct any entrance exam of its own for admission to any of the UG, PG or doctoral-level courses. Admission for the flagship BTech programme is based on JEE Main scores and the entire process of counselling are conducted by JAC Delhi. Further, DTU admission to all the remaining courses is mostly based on national/ university-level entrance exams, such as UCEED,  GATE,  CAT,  MAT and CMAT, among others. However, there are a few MBA specialised courses and BBA, admission to which is offered based on the past qualifying exam  (UG level) followed by an interview round.

MSc Physics - Delhi Technological University review.
Placements: The majority of students who graduate with an MSc degree go on to pursue a PhD. Those who choose to enter the job market often work for EdTech companies such as Byju's, Akash, Allen, and Physics Wallah. The average salary package for MSc graduates is around 10 LPA. Many MSc students also choose to do research internships at top institutes in India and abroad.
Infrastructure: The hostel is very well equipped with various facilities that are available all day long, such as wifi, refrigerator, microwave, gym, and RO water. The classrooms are air-conditioned and spacious, and the schedule is well balanced to improve the quality of life.
Faculty: The faculty at this college are PhD holders with good academic backgrounds. The teaching quality is good, and the balance between theory and practical application is well maintained. Semester exams are generally not difficult, but they do require a good understanding of the course material.

The college has a variety of societies that cater to different interests.
Placements: The placement on the college campus is so versatile. Because of a shortage in placements, only a few get the chance of getting it; otherwise, all you get from the college is a degree and memories. But I would say that those who deserve it will get a better opportunity in it.
Infrastructure: The college has multiple fests, it is often dubbed as a college, where there is something every two weeks. The main fests of college are Aarambh (freshers), Yuvaan (Film and literature fest) in October, Engifest (one of the largest in north india), and Invictus (tech fest of the college), among many others, like sonedo (garba and dandiya), Aarohanfest, etc. The clubs and societies in this college are quite active; you'll always find some club of the other doing something in the college, whether it's vibe practicing their dance routines or UAS DTU testing their drones. The campus has a really huge sports field and has its own sports team; they have trails regularly and participate in a lot of competitions. It also has a gymnasium.
Faculty: The curiosity between us and the faculties are amazing the way of discussion are great and the friendly nature of all faculty members is great; they have better solutions for our every questions. Either we are having difficulties in any questions while appearing, we can ask them in their free time. We are so grateful to all the faculty members inside the campus.

Good faculty, hostel, campus life, rigorous study hours, good college overall.
Placements: M.Sc. students mainly go for research, but some students do sit in placements and take jobs in consultancy and tech companies. Vedantu and companies like them come. They do take weaker students; intelligent ones take research work seriously and see to their future.
Infrastructure: There are two types of hostels. Some are old and some are new. Old hostels are average but completely livable. New ones are good. Sports programs are there. Inter-hostel sports competitions take place every even semester. Mess foods are good. Some days it can be bad depending on what your taste is.
Faculty: In my course, the first semester was pretty average; only some professors were better. In the second semester, all professors are good; they come and take their classes on time. Extra online classes are also taken. Semester exams here are difficult; you have to study hard to pass them.
Other: Campus life here is topnotch.

Review of M.Sc. Physics student from DTU, the first batch that graduated.
Placements: I was from the 2021 batch in M.Sc. Physics at DTU. It was the first batch that graduated, and due to covid, the placements couldn't take place. The students went on to pursue Ph.D. All academic teaching companies hire M.Sc graduates like Vedantu, Byjus, etc.
Infrastructure: Everything was good at DTU. Each classroom was air-conditioned. Wi-Fi was available on campus. The food served was good and affordable. There were a canteen, mess, Nescafe and other tea stalls, a fruit juice corner, etc. It was a near-perfect college with all the facilities provided in best standards.
Faculty: Teachers at DTU were qualified and strict. Classes were punctual. I would not say that everyone was helpful though. People minded their own business. The curriculum was relevant. Semester exams were tough and the pass percentage was nearly 80%. The mid-term exam was average and the end-term exam was serious.

Q:   What to do after JEE Main session 2 result?

    A:

Candidates preparing for IITs are only required to appear for the JEE Advanced entrance exam after qualifying JEE Main. Students who who secure above the 98th percentile in JEE Main 2024 Session 2 should start preparing for JEE Advanced 2025 immediately. Those who score between 95th and 98th percentile should focus on improving their JEE Main score by taking multiple mock tests and practicing previous year's question papers. By analysing their strengths and weaknesses, candidates can identify their areas of proficiency and topics where they need improvement. If they can achieve full marks in their practice sessions, they can start preparing for JEE Advanced. However, if they cannot score full marks, it is recommended that they appear for multiple mock test series for more practice.

Q:   What is the fees structure of DTU?

Q:   Is DTU better than IITs for BTech?

    A:

There is no comparison of IITs with DTU owing to the brand name IITs have for being India's best government Engineering colleges. However, as per the 2023 NIRF ranking released for Engineering colleges, DTU is closely completing with some IITs. A comparison of the similarly ranked Engineering colleges on the basis of multiple components, such as fee and median package are tabulated below:

    Engineering Institute

    NIRF Ranking 2023

    BTech Fee

    BTech Median Salary

    DTU29INR 2.97 Lacs - INR 6.42 lakh
    INR 11 LPA
    IIT Jodhpur30INR 8 lakh
    INR 12 LPA

NOTE: The placement and fee data mentioned in the above table are sourced from unofficial sources. Hence, it is indicative.

Q:   Can I get admission in DTU through JEE Mains with 76.98 percentile?

    A:

Usually, the cutoff for DTU stays around 90, even for the reserved categories. Therefore, getting into B.Tech courses at DTU is difficult with a JEE Main percentile score of 90 or below. The cutoff also goes high and low every year, depending on the following factors:

    • Number of aspirants registered
    • The difficulty level of the exam
    • Total number of seats available
    • Total number of applications received for a particular program
    • Category under which admission is sought

Therefore, it is very difficult to predict the exact cutoff and give an exact answer to this question. Students can, however, use this college predictor created by Shiksha to know the college they can get with their JEE Main score.
