Q:   Which college is better for B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering: IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay?

A:

The course outline of mechanical in IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay is similar and is quite well aligned with the course structure of top ranked international universities and the mechanical is one of the most desired and demanded branches in the IITs. The universities stand on similar QS ranking level and the facility and quality of infrastructure on average is almost the same in both the campuses, IITB has a lake, a pretty larger campus than that of IITD whereas IITD stands in a very desired location of Delhi ( in Hauz Khas) which stands very close to the international airport and various railway stations and is comparatively very green and clean than the outer Delhi. The trends of placement or students going for further studies differ very less and if you are really relying on placements to be a deciding factor, you'll still be in doubt. If we look at the opening and closing ranks of the department in both the colleges, the mechanical in IITB opens before it starts at IITD and also closes some numbers before, but the range is quite same. Many people choose IITB for its past trend or some local variables and similarly people also choose IITD if they aspire to go for civil services as Delhi is the hub for the preparation for UPSC and other civil services and again the accessibility of the nearby regions. I'd say both of the campus stand on the same level if the department is considered, the selection is totally depend on the individual depending on the local variables that affects him/her.

Q:   How much is the hostel fee for BTech at IIT Bombay?

A:

Aspirants  wishing to stay in the hostel of IIT Bombay campus have to pay a hostel fee. The fee is charged as per the service required by the candidates. An additional amount is to be paid for aspirants wanting to avail the mess service. Below is the IIT Bombay hostel fee for BTech:

ComponentFee
Hostel fee without messINR 99,600
Hostel fee with messINR 1.81 lakh

Q:   Can I get admission to IIT Bombay in BTech if my rank is between 1 and 5000?

A:

The cut off rank in Round 6 for B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering is 67 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category, one can not afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing from round to round, better ranks definitely increases your chances of getting admission in IIT Bombay - Indian Institute of Technology.

Q:   Between IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi, which has better hostel facilities and amenities for BTech students?

A:
Based on ratings and reviews from current and former students, IIT Delhi is considered to have better hostel facilities and amenities compared to IIT Bombay. The campus also has various sports facilities, gymnasiums, and recreation rooms, which are highly appreciated by the students. In comparison, while the hostels at IIT Bombay are also considered to be of good quality, they are often criticized for being too congested and having inadequate facilities. However, the campus does have a good range of amenities including a sports complex, swimming pool, and student activity center.

Short overview of every detail of IIT Bombay.
Placements: Placements are very impressive. About 95% of students get jobs, but the level of satisfaction is different for everyone. Top recruiting firms are Microsoft, Google, Bain & Company, etc. Most of the students pursue consulting roles. In mechanical engineering, the scope for higher studies is very good, and getting jobs in the automobile industry is easier.
Infrastructure: The department has excellent facilities, including AC rooms, full Wi-Fi connectivity, and excellent, experienced faculty. Some hostels are very good, but some have serious issues. We get free LAN and Wi-Fi service, good hygienic food, excellent medical facilities, and a sports ground at every hostel.
Faculty: The faculty is very helpful; some have unique course curriculum, open-book exams, and many more such things. The new course curriculum is relevant and makes students industry-ready. Semesters are difficult here, depending on your intelligence level and the hard work you put into your studies.

Life of a student at IIT Bombay.
Placements: Unlike what is believed, not all students secure placements/internships, and the percentage is dependent on department and field of choice too. In software-related departments like CS and Electrical, 80%+ students are placed. Other departments have 60%+. The highest CTC packages are 3 crore+ for international and up to a crore for national.
Infrastructure: Department and lab facilities are top-notch. Hostels are not too good, but you get a vibe of it soon. Mess food, on the other hand, is questionable. The departments and libraries have proper institute Wi-Fi connections. The lecture halls are massive and super amazing.
Faculty: The Mechanical Department has super nice professors. They are also research-oriented and very knowledgeable. They are not very strict with the grading policies and focus more on learning and practical understanding. The semester exams are okay, except for the end-sems, which are very tough (like JEE adv). Also, there is no passing percent situation; we have RG (relative grading) in the entire batch.

A College Worth Spending Your 4 Years.
Placements: Considering last year, roughly 82% of the students were placed in one or another company. The rest were not placed simply because they chose a different path and didn't go for placement. The highest package was around 3cr internationally and 1cr domestically, averaging about 22 LPA. The top recruiters are Google, TATA, Uber, Microsoft, etc.
Infrastructure: There are multiple facilities available for our department within the campus. Our department has its own separate building consisting of several lab facilities, tools, 3D printers, and many more. The quality of food is above average. Mess services are available 4 times a day, which is quite nice. The canteen is a great alternative if you are tired of mess food. There are also night canteens for midnight cravings. Medical facilities are a stone's throw away from several hostels, and ambulances are made available on a single call (considering a valid reason). Each sport has its own separate ground.
Faculty: The teachers were quite helpful throughout the semester. In fact, our department teacher was a very knowledgeable man. Our bio teacher was very much into teaching. The professors are also available in their respective department buildings during particular time slots, and you can have a one-on-one conversation with them.

The best decision of my life was to really love the campus—its people and culture.
Placements: Major students are placed in good companies for mechanical cores like Jaguar Land Rover, Honda, and Tata Steel. Apart from that, many students pursue higher studies and go to colleges like Stanford and MIT. 90% of students in my batch get internships at top companies, be it software, consult or mechanical core.
Infrastructure: In our department, we have many labs for different subjects of mechanical engineering. Each lab has top-tier machines. Apart from that, our classrooms are equipped with AC, Wi-Fi and sockets for charging our devices. Our hostel rooms are small, but the facilities are really good.
Faculty: Teaching is really helpful and professors are really nice. They really want to help you develop an interest in the core mechanical branch. The course curriculum has been changed in the last few years, which has really helped the students explore outside of their field.
Other: I actually switched branches from civil engineering. But branch changes have been removed by major IITs. We have Asia's largest cultural and teaching fests, which are really good.

Campus life and people around.
Placements: Around 70–80 percent of people end up with good or decent placements, and some of them pursue higher education, such as a such as a Masters in Teaching or an MBA. The companies have retreated since the COVID period due to the heavy recession. But they are expected to improve in the coming years.
Infrastructure: Really good infrastructure for the academic area, but hostels are not in very good shape. The academic area includes classrooms and labs that are well maintained with the newest technology and machines; even the sports grounds are well maintained and in good shape. But only new hostels are good; old ones aren't great.
Faculty: The professors are very hilly in my department. Extra lectures are given at our convenience. Even sometimes, the pros give us some freedom to choose the paper pattern. They also allow cheat sheets for formulas, and some allow open-book and open-internet exams.
Other: The course is good, but some professors are great researchers but not very good teachers.

IITs accept admission through jee exam and since you have not completed your 12th, you are ineligible to sit in the exam but you can go for m.tech if you wish to pursue later.

You must be a pass out or an appearing student of class 12th with 75 percent aggregate. Now, the real fight starts. The way to IIT passes through two important stages: JEE Mains and JEE Advance, where you have to pass JEE Mains and score well in Advance. I hope you got your answer. Best of luck.

Admissions in IITs are done on the basis of rank scored in JEE ADVANCED exam. So, one has to first qualify JEE MAIN exam and then score a good rank in JEE ADVANCED in order to get admission in IIT. Best of luck.

For IIT, you need to qualify JEE Mains. So, you are not eligible. You can apply for any other college via lateral entry. All the best.
