SRM Institute of Science and Technology or SRM IST (formerly known as SRM University Chennai) was established in 1985 and is located in Kattankulathur, Chennai. It is considered to be a good college as it is ranked 1001-1200 by the QS World University Rankings 2025 under the 'World University' category. Further,  SRM University Chennai Rankings include 4th rank by Outlook 2023 under the Engineering category,  4th rank by Times 2023 for BBA, and 11th rank by NIRF 2024 under the Architecture category. 

Candidates seeking admission must have a valid NEET score to be eligible for the admissions. As per the SRM University NEET cutoff 2024, the last-round MBBS and BDS courses stood at 195886 and 338076 for admission to SRM University for the General category students in the All India quota. So, the assumed expected cutoff for the upcoming admission session 2025 can be stood between 200000 and 400000 for the General AI category candidates. Although, it is an estimated guess and the NEET cutoff is subject to many factors such as competition, difficulty level of the exam, and previous year trend.  

Candidates who have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination from a recognised board can apply. However, the qualifying examination should have been passed with a minimum of 50% aggregate. As per the latest statistics, 9740 job offers were rolled to the 2025 batch students. Earlier, the number of offers made during SRMIST placements 2024 was over 6291. The number of high paying offers in 2025 was 4227 and in 2024 it was above 3295.

1. Located in Chennai which is a metropolitan city. Three out of five campuses are located in Chennai
2. You can have a lot of fun
3. In KTR, there are a lot of opportunities provided to students to develop their profile like hundreds of clubs, teams like robocon, conrods, camber, and 4ze where students can build their own bots, cars and stuff. If you are really interested in your field then you can do anything in SRM
4. Canteen facilities are excellent
5. As far as placements are concerned, most students are placed in IT sector. Core companies also visit the campus but they select only one or two students. In a batch of 500600 students i.e. 1520 students are placed in core companies. But still that depends on your skills and we can’t blame the university for that.

Negative:

1. The student to faculty ratio is too high.
2. Faculty members are not very highly skilled, though they are postgraduates in their respective field. Most of them have completed M.Tech from other local colleges. There are very few from IITs and foreign universities.
3. The curriculum is old. 
4. The evaluation system is also not very good.
5. Very little research happens here. Most of the faculty members don’t have any publications
6. Also, if you have a lot of money you can join in management quota into any branch you want. Almost half of the students have joined in management quota.

No, SRM IST does not accept CUET score for admission to any of its UG & PG courses. The university conducts its in-house entrance exam for BTech and MTech, i.e., SRM JEE. Further, for admission to MBA course, the university accepts scores of national-level entrance exams such as GMAT, CAT, MAT, TANCE, etc. SRM University also offers direct admission to courses such as BA, MSc, etc., based on the merit of last qualifying exams of previous education.

SRM IST fee refund policy is based on UGC guidelines. Candidates get full refund at any time between the academic year of admission. No, candidates must pay all fees online or by DD. No cash payment is allowed for the counselling process. The candidates who qualify for SRMJEEE must appear for the counselling rounds with their documents for verification. SRMIST is conducting the counselling online. For online counselling, candidates are informed the details through email or text messages. To participate in SRMJEEE counselling in online mode (SRM counselling), candidates have to register and pay the required fee.

During the SRM School of Management placement 2025, more than 525 MBA students registered for the process. Out of these, over 373 were placed in top-notch companies. Candidates cannot join SRM without entrance exam. The selection for MBA course is based on CAT/MAT/CMAT/NMAT/GMAT/SAT score. Candidates who have not qualified any of the accepted entrance exam can appear for SRMJEEM.

SRM University accepts XAT, MAT scores. To get into the institute it is necessary for the candidates to score at least 50 percentile for which they will selection under XAT. Further, MBA cutoff for XAT and MAT exam stood at 50 and 80, respectively, for the open category candidates.

Opening and Closing rank depends on the category and quota of candidates. For general category under All India, opening rank was 559036 and closing rank was 702719. Cut off are different when it comes to other categories or female candidates and even domicile of home state. Admission to Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre is based on the scores obtained in the entrance exam NEET. Applicants are advised to confirm what category are they applying while checking for cut offs.

As per the eligibility criteria, aspirants must pass bachelor's degree in relevant subjects with at least 50% aggregate to apply for the M.Tech course. The university considers the eligibility and GATE score for providing admission.

Aspirants who have not qualified GATE can appear for SRMJEEE (PG) conducted by the university. Eligibility of candidates are evaluate during document verification. In case an aspirant is unable to fulfill the requirements, his or her admission stands cancelled.

The total tuition fees for SRM IST M.Tech is INR 3.20 Lacs - INR 17.50 lakh. The fee also includes the integrated MBA fees. Candidates need to pay the course fee after completion of all the selection rounds.

MTech is a two-year course divided into four semesters. SRM Institute of Technology Kattankulathur offers M.Tech in full-time mode in 61 specialisations and part-time in seven specialisations.
