IIT, Madras, where nature meets learning.
Placements: The mechanical department has an average placement salary of 8.5 LPA, and the figure is the same or less for all departments other than computer science. The highest package offered was around 40 LPA to 50 LPA. The internship team is also very good. Many giants like Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and FMCGs like ITC and P&G visit the campus for placements.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are okay. Few have AC, but most of the classes are normal, they are well-maintained. The library is awesome and big. The sports complex has facilities for varieties of indoor sports, and there are well-maintained cricket, tennis and basketball pitches. The institute hospital is okay.
Faculty: Some faculty, especially the senior faculty are pretty brilliant. The course curriculum is flexible according to the student's interests. Most of the courses are well structured, but some are awful too. Exams are organised well. Teachers are very helpful in case of difficulties and encourage students to do research.

The neutral review of IIT Madras.
Placements: If you are looking for the core jobs for relatively newer branches(metallurgy, naval architecture, aerospace, chemical), this is not the place to join. For the other branches and the non-core profiles, the college is one of the best. Almost all the people in my batch(who were from the B.Tech) got placed. The highest package offered is 1.4 crores per annum, the average is in between 7-12 LPA, and the lowest is 2 LPA. The stipend offered to the students is the highest is 1.5 lacs per month, the average is in between 10-20K per month, and the lowest is 2K per month.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the campus is excellent. The high-speed internet with the ethernet port of 12 Mbps is not rare. For the undergraduates, the labs are highly equipped. For the research students, the infrastructure might seem short. The classrooms are excellent. The quality of food might be average. The single rooms are given from the second years for all the programs.
Faculty: We have some excellent faculty members, who are highly charismatic, intelligent, and funny at the same time. The faculty members can't form two lines properly in front of the students(they are usually excellent in research and the subject matters). But usually, the professors are good.

The best campus in India. Supportive faculty.
Placements: Overall placements are quite good. As far as I know, almost everyone who attended placement session got selected for some companies. Though some core companies preferred only M.Tech students, there were sufficient non core companies where many of this stream got placed. I think the average salary is around Rs. 7.5 lakhs. Almost every student got internship through institute internship portal. Some of the internships didn't have any stipend, while companies like HUL, ITC provided stipends as high as Rs. 1.5 lakhs per month.
Infrastructure: Everything is fine in terms of infrastructure. As IIT Madras is one of the earliest institutes in India, some of the buildings are a bit old. Some of the classrooms are air-conditioned. Except for first year students, everyone is provided with a single room. Mess food is not that good. There are a couple of other eateries in the campus which are quite good and affordable. Every hostel room is provided with LAN port and wi-fi is available for students who are working in various labs.
Faculty: There are around 50 faculty members in thermal engineering. Some of the professors are really helpful and classes are also quite good. Most of the professors are approachable for students. Students can do mini-projects under the guidance of the professors. There are a lot of elective courses which we could choose from any department which provide pretty good flexibility to the students in choosing the courses of their interest.
