JEE Main Dress Code 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) recently released the advisory stating the dos and don’ts for JEE Main 2026 exam. NTA will conduct the JEE Main 2026 session 1 exam from January 21 to 30 and session 2 from April 1 to 10 in computer-based mode. Like previous year, this time there is no mention of the JEE Main dress code 2026 that one should follow on the day of the exam. However, there are certain regulations issued by the NTA which may affect your choice of outfit on exam day. NTA has specifically mentioned, "Shoes with thick soles and garments with large buttons not allowed". Read below to know the dos and don’ts vis a vis exam dress code including the following:

JEE Main 2026 Dress Code - What To Wear And What Not To Wear
Take a look at the pointers below to get a thorough understanding of what you should and shouldn’t wear to your JEE Main test centre.
What to wear:
- Wear simple, plain and comfortable clothes to avoid undergoing exhaustive checking
- Try wearing half sleeves clothes that are light and do not have many drapes
- Complicated hairstyles or clothing will lead to a longer frisking session
- If you wear any religious attire please reach out before the time for thorough frisking
What not to wear:
- Avoid wearing clothes that have metal attached to them (underwired bras, belts etc)
- Avoid wearing any kind of jewellery or other accessories
- Do not wear long-sleeved clothes or attires/trousers with too many pockets/deep pockets
- Do not wear shoes with thick soles. Candidates wearing shoes have to face longer frisking/checking procedures. Wear sandals/slippers
- Do not wear garments with large buttons.
- Do not wear fancy stoles, scarfs, watches, sunglasses etc
List of Banned Items in JEE Main 2026
It’s a rarity that your dress would get you barred from taking JEE Main 2026. However, carrying items banned by the exam conducting authority will. Take a look at the items candidates will not be allowed to carry to the examination hall.

Guideline for JEE Main 2026 Paper 2 (BArch candidates)
- Aspirants appearing for JEE Main 2026 Paper 2 will be allowed to carry Geometry Box Set, Pencils, Erasers and Colour Pencils or Crayons.
- These Candidates are not allowed to use watercolour on Drawing Sheets.
Guideline for Diabetic Students
- Such candidates will be allowed to carry eatables to the examination hall. These include sugar tablets/fruits (like banana/apple/ orange) and transparent water bottles.
- Diabetic students will not be allowed to carry packed foods including candy. Chocolates, sandwiches, packed juices, biscuits etc.
Items to carry to JEE Main 2026 Test Centre
Listed below are the items that candidates should carry to their JEE Main 2026 test centre
- JEE Main 2026 admit card along with Self Declaration
- One passport-size photograph. It should be the same as the one uploaded in the JEE Main online application form. The photo will be pasted on the attendance sheet at the centre
- One of the listed below valid photo ID proofs in original:
- PAN card
- Driving License
- Voter ID
- Passport
- Aadhaar Card (With photograph)
- E- Aadhaar
4. One hand sanitiser 50 ml
5. One transparent ballpen
6. PwD certificate issued by the Competent Authority, if claiming the relaxation under PwD category.
The difficulty level of JEE Main 2025 April 2 shift 1 exam will be available after the exam concludes. Shiksha will provide the difficulty level and JEE Main paper analysis, students reaction based on feedback from students who are appearing in the exam.
Students are not allowed to carry calculators inside the exam centre in JEE Main exam. Students can use the virtual calculator available on the screen during the exam. Virtual calculators will be available on the computer screen of students during the JEE Main exam.
The total duration of JEE Main exam is 3 hours and the exam is conducted continuous without any break. Candidates have to enter the exam hall as per the scheduled time and can leave exam hall only after the completion of paper. The exam will have a total of 75 questions from 3 subjects, Physics Chemistry and Mathematics.
NTA has released the JEE Main 2026 dates on the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in. The session 1 exam will be conducted from January 21 to 30. The JEE Main 2026 exam date session 2 is April 1 to 10. The JEE Main 2026 application form will be released in October. Candidates are advised to keep checking this page regularly for all updates related to JEE Main 2026 exam dates and schedule of other events related to the exam.
JEE Main city intimation slip 2026 will be available on the NTA official website jeemain.nta.ac.in tentatively in the third week of January for the session 1 exam. JEE Mains City slip have details about the JEE Main exam city in which the candidate is allotted the centre to appear in the exam and the date of exam. It helps candidates to plan their travel to the JEE Main exam centre in advance. JEE Main city intimation slip is different from the admit card.
