Q:   Which has better placement at IMUC, B.Tech Marine engineering or B.Tech Naval and ocean engineering?

A:

IMUC offers a strong placement record for both its B.Tech Marine Engineering and B.Tech Naval and Ocean Engineering programs. But when it comes to placement, B.Tech Marine Engineering often performs marginally better than B.Tech Naval and Ocean Engineering. Greater Demand for Marine Engineers: Compared to naval architects and ocean engineers, marine engineers are more in demand in the maritime sector. This is due to the fact that there are more ships in use than there are navy ships and ocean constructions. Greater Opportunities: Marine engineers can find employment on a range of ships, including offshore vessels, cargo ships, cruise ships, and tankers. Ocean engineers and naval architects sometimes have fewer career options and are more specialised in their expertise.  The B.Tech Marine Engineering placement rate at IMUC has been approximately 95% on average in recent years, whereas the B.Tech Naval and Ocean Engineering placement rate has been approximately 90% on average. Furthermore, the starting salary for marine engineers at IMUC is normally approximately ?6 LPA, but the starting salary for naval architects and ocean engineers is typically around ?5.5 LPA.

Q:   Which one is better for B.Tech, IMU Chennai or IMU Navi Mumbai?

A:

Most people agree that IMU Navi Mumbai is a superior university to IMU Chennai for B.Tech students. This is as a result of IMU Navi Mumbai's improved placement history, more contemporary campus, and greater academic reputation. Compared to IMU Chennai, IMU Navi Mumbai boasts a faculty with greater experience and a longer history of achievement. Because of its position in a significant port city, its students also have greater access to marine companies. Additionally, IMU Navi Mumbai boasts a more robust network of alumni, which aids in the employment success of its students. The campus of IMU Navi Mumbai is more up-to-date than that of IMU Chennai, and it provides a greater selection of extracurricular activities and amenities. All things considered, IMU Navi Mumbai is a superior university for B.Tech students seeking a modern campus environment, a robust academic program, and exceptional placement possibilities.

The course is for brave hearts .
Placements: About 85% or above are placed in my senior batch. As a trainee you can get from 35K to 50K per month. When you are promoted to fourth engineer in the ship it may vary from 1Lakh to 1.5Lakhs according to different companies and in which ship you are in, it also increases according to the promotions and reach upto 7lakhs or above per month. Top recruiting companies are synergy, feet management, torm etc. Each batch can get internship from different ports as they need.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is available in campus and library. The marine workshop in the campus is the third the largest workshop in asian. Classrooms are well maintained and ventilated. The new library is big and have different materials for the course. The library is also well maintained and air conditioned. There are three hostels in the campus. One of which is newly built and it include basketball and badminton courts inside of it. The food available in the mess is of average quality. Madical care is available in campus and doctor will be there in alternative days and the medicine are free. The campus promote sports and also take students to other campus for tournaments.
Faculty: The teachers are highly qualified and some of them have doctorate in more than one subject. The syllabus for first two year is same as other engineering stream including two or three marine subjects in each semester. The exams are somewhat difficult and 50% is the pass mark.
Other: 85% attendance is needed. Celebrations inside the campus are rare. The campus have strict rules.

It is a good college for focused students.
Placements: All the students who don't have backlogs got placed from our college. The lowest salary package offered is 3 LPA, and we got placed on the basis of a contract. Maersk Line and SR Shipping are the companies which hire most of the students from our college. Marine engineers are the roles offered to us.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is not good, but the interior is very good. Labs and hostels are very good and are furnished. The mess is very good, and the sports facilities are very good. There is a government hospital facility. So, there is no reason to not to be a part of this wonderful college as it has everything.
Faculty: Many of our teachers are graduated from IITs and NITs. They are highly knowledgeable and are very good in nature. They teach and explain everything very nicely. They have in-depth knowledge of the subject, so I think they are good teachers. So, this is a good thing for a government college.
Other: I always wanted to be a marine engineer, so I chose this course, and it is a government college. It has better placements than other IMU's. I wish that our college should reopen the canteen, which is closed due to some reasons. Events and fest are the best things about our college. Pyran is one of the famous fests, and the rest of all events are good. Scholarships are also provided to all good students and also intelligent students. Co-curricular activities are also very good.

I am dissatisfied because the value for money paid here is waste.
Placements: About only one-fourth of the students got placed in 3 different companies which visited the campus recently. All the 3 companies were average and offered almost the same initial salary packages. Due to more intake and less approaching of companies, the placement condition here is uncertain and diminishing over time.
Infrastructure: Our college provides good mess facility, but don't have a canteen. There is no specific place to play any sports or games. The medical facilities are quite average. Classrooms and labs are not well-equipped as well as infrastructure is not good enough for the value for the money paid. Hostel facilities are average, and the total area of the campus is approximately small.
Faculty: Faculty members of this college are not exceptionally qualified and knowledgeable as per for this course is required. This course curriculum is way too complex and futile and is not according to make students industry-ready. It is a waste of money.
Other: The marine engineering course here is not as good as any other private colleges. The extracurricular activities are sporadic and are not quite useful.

IMU is the best for studying marine engineering.
Placements: Placements are average. In the Maritime sector, there are very fewer demands for jobs, and if you go to any college, they are not giving 100% placement. In our college, around 60% of student were placed this year and an average salary offered is Rs. 40,000 per month.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is quite good. You will get all the facilities in a single place. Even the ship on campus is also available. Thus, you will get all the basic information about the ship in the land only, no need to go to the sea. All the sports courts are also available in the college.
Faculty: I am studying B.Tech in Marine engineering. Faculty members are highly educated. As in this Maritime field, we want training as well as academics. Discipline is quite important in our field, and this is what they are teaching us all the time. So that after passing out from here we don't have to face problems onboard.
Other: I like to explore the world, so I have chosen this field. It also provides a good salary so that I can fulfil my dreams.

Review of Indian Maritime University, Chennai- Mumbai Campus MERI.
Placements: The college provides 100% of placement in worldwide companies, mostly in Singapore and India, and students can try for off-campus interviews. The college is the best for marine engineering. There are many opportunities, promising jobs, and chances for qualified candidates. Thanks to the government of India for many improvements.
Infrastructure: The college provides facilities like Wi-Fi, library, sports, games, gym, workshops, external workshops, dockyard training, classroom, laboratories, engines, and lots of other things available around the campus.
Faculty: Faculty members and education are very good, even better-visiting faculty members and 100% of attendance is mandatory. Central University controls the course curriculum. India's government boost in transportation and shipping sector has provided a lot of fund for our college. The college provides world-class workshops and training.

Q:   Can I join IMUC directly?

A:

No, you cannot join IMUC directly. To qualify for admission to the university, you must pass the IMUC entrance exam. Every year in May or June, the IMUC entrance exam is held. A:

IMU Chennai - Is it good for UG Diploma?

Here's what past students and alumni have to say:

* Good Infrastructure: Well-maintained campuses with modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, libraries, digital classrooms, swimming pools, sports grounds, and comfortable hostels with a sea-facing view.
* Experienced Faculty: Professors who have extensive sailing experience (15+ years) providing both theoretical and practical knowledge. Teaching methods are admired, making students industry-ready.
* Placement Opportunities: Although there may be some limitations, most students have reported getting placed or sponsored by top companies like Fleet Management, Synergy, Torm, and Home.
* Course Curriculum: Relevant and industry-focused, preparing students for careers in the merchant navy.
* Campus Life: A vibrant atmosphere with extracurricular activities, sports, and festivals.

However, there are some areas for improvement:

* Food Quality: Some students found the food to be subpar.
* Limited Placement Opportunities for Boys: Unfortunately, the college focuses more on placing girl students, leaving boy students without opportunities.

Overall, IMU Chennai seems to be a good option for those interested in pursuing a UG Diploma in the merchant navy field, considering its strong infrastructure, experienced faculty, and decent placement opportunities. However, students should weigh the pros and cons carefully, particularly regarding limited placement opportunities for male students.
