IMUKC - The DMET legacy, where the future seafarers are trained.
Placements: The college has an excellent alumni network that helps cadets at a very root level. All the cadets were placed. The salary package depends on the type of vessel and company, as the working environment changes. Top recruiting companies are Maersk, M.Sc. NYK, Pacific Basin, Feet Management, IOCL, Torm Tankers, Dynagas, and Scorpion Tankers. Cadets get various internships as well from big ports in India and even internships provided by the Indian Navy. Apart from joining ship as TME to Chief Engineer, they excel in various other fields such as defence, sports, other MNCs, etc.
Infrastructure: The campus is not so big but not so small as well. The college is equipped with basic facilities for sea training. Sports facilities are available; hostel and mess facilities are also available. Apart from that, the college encourages cadets to take part in various other activities like sports, technical paper writing, co-curricular activities, etc.
Faculty: The college is being run by DEMTIANS and has a good range of experienced faculty members. The teaching techniques are very effective and can be easily understood by all the cadets irrespective of linguistic barriers. They make students instant-ready as the curriculum is very relevant. Passing semester exams is not that difficult, as the syllabus are very limited.
Other: The college and course are very adventurous and exciting. Apart from studies, the college has its own sports team (football, cricket, hockey, volleyball, and basketball) and a band team. The college conducts various fests, including TEMPEST (Asia's largest marine fest). The college rainwater harvesting system is being constructed.

Just search for the DMET Kolkata and you will know everything about this great college.
Placements: In our college, you have to maintain at least 70% to get placements. Students who score below 70% also get placed. The highest salary package offered is 7.5 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 1.3 LPA. Pacific Basin, Feet Management, MOL, etc., visit the college. Our college provides internship opportunities for everyone who doesn't have arrear papers. In our college, everyone gets the same trainee role.
Infrastructure: Everything is available with a wide range of features. Sports and games have different levels here. Our college provides us with various opportunities to play. There is a sponsor team to go on to other colleges to participate. There is no comparison in other colleges.
Faculty: All of our faculty members are well-experienced. They came from doing the same job that we will do. They share a lot of information that will help us onboard. They came after sailing the in merchant navy. The difficulty level of semester exams is a bit high because you have to read a larger number of subjects other than normal engineering. The passing percentage is about 80%.
Other: This course provides you with a real experience. They teach you how to love your work. There should be fewer subjects. Some subjects do not have any relation with our real work but we have to read. Fests, campus surroundings, and everything are great. There are a lot of opportunities for you and many types of extracurricular activities are going on continuously.

Placements: In 2021, 85% students got placed. The top recruiting companies were nyk, chevron, feet management, shipping corporation of india ltd, bsm, shell, etc. A good number of students got placed in the roles of trainee marine engineer, engine cadets or junior marine engineer.
Infrastructure: Good facilities are available in the college campus like labs, good classrooms, Wi-Fi campus and library. The quality of food was average. Medical facilities were present and good. The sports and games are regularly conducted to maintain the physical fitness of the cadets.
Faculty: The faculty members were knowledgeable, and helpful. The teaching quality was commendable. The course curriculum was very relevant and made the cadets fit for their future industrial exposure. The difficult level of examinations were under moderate to tough criteria with more than 50 % pass marks .

Bridging dreams and reality: IMU Kolkata.
Placements: Of the cadets who passed out in 2024, out of 238, 231 have been placed and the rest 7 are having arrears or are interested in pursuing a higher degree. The top recruiting companies are NYK, Chevron, Pacific Basin, and M.Sc. Dynagas, Torm Tankers, and many more.
Infrastructure: This is a residential course, so you have to stay in the hostel provided by the college. There are laboratories, libraries, and a mess on the ground floor of the hostel. There's a ground where you can play football, hockey, and cricket. There's a basketball court, badminton court, gym, and a huge auditorium.
Faculty: Most faculty members are pass-outs of this college and retire as chief engineers. They have experience onboard. They help us a lot in gaining knowledge about harsh conditions onboard ships. In the course, you get to learn a bit of everything: electrical, mechanical, electronics, and software engineering as well. The semester exams are a bit tough. Around 70 percent of cadets are able to clear all the subjects.

IMU/DMET/MERIT campus review.
Placements: Placement is above average. More than 80 percent of cadets get placed every year. There is no concept of the highest package in this field. Cadets receive a stipend ranging from 500 dollars to 1000 dollars depending on the company. Top recruiting companies are M.Sc. FLEET, CHEVRON, SYNERGY.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is good. Hostels are fully furnished, Wi-Fi connection is provided to all the years of cadets, classrooms are air-conditioned, and smart boards are also there. Libraries are also fully air-conditioned. The food provided by the mess is hygienic.
Faculty: Professor and faculty members are well qualified and knowledgeable. They are supportive to the cadets. The quality of teaching is really fantastic. The course curriculum is relevant to the field. The cadets get ready for the industry after completing the courses. The semester exams are a little tough to pass as there is a 50 percent passing criteria.

Q:   Which branch is best in B.Tech at IMU Kolkata?

A:

At IMU Kolkata, choosing the appropriate B.Tech branch necessitates carefully weighing one's interests and professional objectives. Opportunities in marine operations are provided by marine engineering, which focuses on ship propulsion systems and machinery. Those interested in shipbuilding will find naval architecture, which entails designing marine vessels, fascinating. To make an informed choice, assess your passion, strengths, and goals. It would help if you also looked into current trends in the work market. Examine the various specializations offered and select the branch that best fits your professional goals and provides an enjoyable educational experience in the fast-paced maritime sector.

Q:   Which has better placement at IMU Kolkata, B.Tech or M.Tech?

A:

Because there is a greater need for recent graduates in the marine industry, early exposure to industry practices, and a wide range of career prospects across multiple sectors, IMU Kolkata's B.Tech programs often result in better placement outcomes than its M.Tech programs. On the other hand, M.Tech programs have to contend with issues like a reduced number of hiring organizations, experience prerequisites, and a concentration on specialised knowledge. However, placement success for both B.Tech and M.Tech graduates can be impacted by individual performance, specialist M.Tech specializations like port management or ocean engineering, and changing market trends. In order to make an informed decision that is in line with one's objectives, it is imperative that one take into account personal interests, professional aspirations, and programme dynamics in addition to placement statistics. Extensive research and conversations with teachers and alumni are also essential.
