Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Can I get admission to JNU without CUET?

A:

To get admission at Jawaharlal Nehru University, candidates must visit the official website of the University (jnu.ac.in) or NTA for course-wise admission criteria. JNU admission to most of the UG, PG and Diploma courses are based on candidates' performance in the CUET-UG & CUET-PG scores. For admission to JNU BA (Hons.) in Foreign Languages, BSc.-MSc Integrated programme in Ayurveda Biology and Certificate of Proficiency courses, JNU accepts CUET-UG. For JNU PG courses including MTech, MPH, MA, MSc, MCA and PG Diploma in Big Data, admission is based on CUET-PG scores. For JNU MBA admission 2025, CUET-PG is not valid and is dependent on CAT scores.

Q:   Is JNU better than DU?

A:

As per the NIRF 2024 rankings, JNU is ranked 2nd, while DU is ranked 6th under 'University' category. This clearly suggests that JNU is a better university overall. However, these rankings are based on a variety of factors. Furthermore, the best university for a student will depend on the individual needs and preferences. Here is the comparison of JNU and DU based on some key factors:

  • Academics: JNU is known for its strong academics and research focus. It has a number of world-renowned faculty members, and its students have gone on to achieve great things in their careers. DU is also a good university academically, but it is not as research-intensive as JNU.
  • Campus Life: JNU has a vibrant campus life with a strong student union. There are many student organizations and activities, and the university has a reputation for being a hotbed of political activism. DU also has a good campus life, but it is not as political as JNU.
  • Location: JNU is located in South Delhi, while DU is spread out across the city. This means that JNU students have a more central location, while DU students have more options when it comes to choosing a college or hostel.
  • Fees: The fees at JNU are lower than the fees at DU. This is because JNU is a central university, while DU is a state university.

* Old Curriculum: Some students felt that the course curriculum could be updated to include more industrial exposure.
* Hostel Conditions: Although the hostel facilities are generally good, some students mentioned that they needed improvement.
* Facilities for Research Students: Limited research opportunities and resources might affect students' ability to pursue higher degrees.

Overall Assessment: Based on the feedback from students and alumni, pursuing an M.Sc. at JNU seems like a good choice for those interested in academics, research, and networking. While the placement record may not be stellar, the university's strong reputation, excellent faculty, and vibrant campus atmosphere make it an attractive option. Very free and friendly environment.
Placements: In our batch, 39 students were placed. After the sixth semester or B.A. Students apply for in campus placements. Foreign companies recruit students in large numbers, students are recruited from multinational corporations and from foreign embassies. My dream is to work in an embassy.
Infrastructure: No annual fests are done which is actually very upsetting. But counselling programmes are done from time to time. There is our central library on the campus which is the biggest wealth according to me, it has almost all the necessary books that students will ever need, and students sit there the whole day to study. There are sports clubs and stadium for students. Hostels are nice and compact, but one flaw I'd like to point out is lack of ventilation. Mess and other things are acceptable.
Faculty: I wanted to learn any foreign language so in future I can work in any foreign country. Arabic seems very interesting to me and talking and speaking in Arabic is lovely. The faculty members are around 15-20 here. We have five papers in each year or semester. So we have five faculty members with us to teach us. Most of the faculty members are graduates from JNU itself. There are three sessional exams and semester exams every six months.
Other: Best thing about JNU is that you have a lot of freedom to express your views.
