Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   How can I get admission to the Vellore Institute of Technology Chennai BTech course?

A:

Candidates willing to take admission in BTech at VIT must take the VITEEE exam, which is Vellore Institute of Technology's own entrance exam. VITEEE is a computer-based test. Selection is based on the rank secured in VITEEE.

Tech admission is based on candidates' performance in the VITEEE exam, which is followed by VITEEE counselling. Admission to other courses, such as B.Sc, B.B.A, B.Sc, B.Com, and M.Sc, is based on previous qualifying exam performance. Admission to the B.Arch programme requires a valid NATA score.

The VITEEE cutoff for 2023 will be determined separately for each engineering stream, with varying cutoff ranges based on candidate preferences. Candidates who score 118 marks or higher are likely to fall within the top 250 ranks, while those with scores below 31 may be placed in the 20,000 or lower rank category.

Q:   Can I apply for BTech at Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai without a JEE Main score?

Admission to its B.Tech programs is solely based on the Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE). VIT also offers admission based on management quota, but securing a rank in the VITEEE exam is still mandatory. Higher the rank in VITEE, the lower the management quota fee. Even though it is compulsory for candidates to qualify VITEEE for B.Tech admission to VIT, there are some alternatives which they can consider.

Q:   Can I join BTech at VIT Chennai without an entrance exam?

A:

    It is all false advertising.
Placements: 70% of the students from my course were placed, but most of the highest packages were from offline interviews. The highest package was 16 LPA, and the lowest was not disclosed. They have not disclosed the exact figure, as this was the first batch to have completed this course. The top recruiters are Tata Motors, Mahindra, Hyundai, and Siemens. There is a criteria for a mandatory internship in our 3rd year at college. The roles offered vary from Robotics to Software Engineer to Mechanical Head to Mechanical Design Engineer.
Infrastructure: The facilities and the infrastructure are outdated, and the new ones are yet to be completed. Many of the classrooms where we'll attend classes have no air conditioning, which in the Chennai weather is not bearable. The library is good, but it isn't sufficient for the number of students on this campus. The hostel Wi-Fi isn't good either; the maximum Wi-Fi speed I got was 5 Mbps, and they turn off the Wi-Fi at 12 AM even during exam hours.
Faculty: The teachers are useless but knowledgeable. Their quality of teaching is 3rd class at best. The curriculum is industry-ready, but the way they teach it is not. The difficulty of the semester paper depends on the mood of the teacher and the class average. If the class average is high, the chances of getting a tough paper are high.
Other: The campus fests are half-baked and not well organized. The communication is bad, and the way they talk to us is really rude. The staff has no courtesy. The only thing good here is the crowd.

    Really good infrastructure and facilities.
Placements: Placements are very good and into world-renowned companies like HP, Intel, Amazon, Flipkart, Paytm, etc. Many students received internships at various companies and reputed institutions. The top role offered in my course is mechanical engineer.
Infrastructure: We have a wide array of facilities, like Wi-Fi in the hostel as well as state-of-the-art labs. The library is excellent with books on all topics and there is also an online website of the library for e-books. The classrooms are very big. The quality of the food is nice as well.
Faculty: There are two midterm exams and a final exam for theory. The first term exam is like any other exam, while the second term exam is an open book exam. The course curriculum is internationally-based. The teachers are very experienced in their respective fields.
Other: There are many clubs that enhance our knowledge as well as provide opportunities to explore our talents and skills.

Good faculty and placement opportunities, but not a great campus life.
Placements: The average package offered is around 6-7 LPA, with the highest package going up to 40 LPA. Mechatronics is a newly introduced branch in this college, and the first batch will pass out in 2024. The placement opportunities are promising since this is a new branch and in demand.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is available in academic blocks and the hostel. The infrastructure is decent, with good labs and the required equipment. The hostel provides all the basic amenities, and various caterers are available in each block. 24*7 medical facilities are also available. There is a supermarket and various food outlets inside the campus.
Faculty: The curriculum trends to the required industry needs, and the teachers are very helpful and informative. The exams are not very difficult, but it depends on the faculty and the level of preparation of the student. The teaching quality is decent to good.
Other: Campus life is not great, as there are certain unnecessary restrictions. But the academic aspect is good.

Vitc - Is it worth the hype?
Placements: I am currently in first so I don't know about placements but from what my seniors told me I can say that placements are pretty good. A lot of my seniors have grabbed packages of 15 LPA and above. Even though recession is going on for placements still the placements are very good.
Infrastructure: Hostel and infrastructure facilities provided by Vellore institute of technology Chennai campus are exceptionally good. Although the sad part is that there is always construction going on in the campus. The labs here leave you speeches as the computers have rtx 3060 and min 32 gb ram.
Faculty: All the teachers are highly qualified and have very good achievements but qualifications does not mean that teachers are good. Some are very good at teaching and some are like you won't study from them even if they pay you. Some are famous for givong marks and others for back. Overall the curriculum is pretty average.
Other: A lot of fests are organized almost everyday something is happening in the college.
