NSO Syllabus 2024: NSO syllabus is based on the CBSE, ICSE and various state boards. If you sit for the second level and have moved onto the next class, the syllabus will remain the same (i.e. of the previous class). For classes 10, 11 and 12, a total of 50 questions are asked in the NSO exam. The maximum time duration for the Olympiad is one hour. Students who are appearing for the National Science Olympiad 2024 must go through the NSO Olympiad syllabus 2024. After going through the NSO Syllabus 2024, students must check the NSO exam pattern to know the marking scheme and types of questions asked that would help in better Preparation for NSO exam 2024.

Once released, the detailed syllabus class-wise for NSO exam 2024 will be provided below. Students can now check NSO syllabus 2023 below.

NSO Syllabus for Class 12

Section – 1 : Physics : Electricity and Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction, Alternating current, Electromagnetic waves, Optics, Modern Physics, Semiconductor Electronics, Communication Systems.

Chemistry : Solid State, Solutions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Surface Chemistry, General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Elements, p-Block Elements (Group 15 to 18), d- & f-Block Elements, Coordination Compounds, Haloalkanes and Haloarenes, Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids, Amines, Biomolecules, Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday Life.

Section – 2 : Higher Order Thinking Questions - Syllabus as per Section – 1.

Section – 3 : Relations and Functions, Inverse Trigonometric Functions, Matrices and Determinants, Continuity and Differentiability, Application of Derivatives, Integrals, Application of Integrals, Differential Equations, Vector Algebra, Three Dimensional Geometry, Probability, Linear Programming.

Section – 3 : Reproduction, Genetics and Evolution, Biology in Human Welfare, Biotechnology, Ecology.

NSO Syllabus for Class 11

Section – 1 : Physics: Units and Measurements, Mechanics, Properties of Matter, Heat and Thermodynamics, Oscillations, Waves.

Chemistry: Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry, Structure of Atom, Classification of Elements and Periodicity in Properties, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, States of Matter, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Redox Reactions, Hydrogen, The s-Block Elements, The p-Block Elements (Groups 13 and 14), Organic Chemistry - Some Basic Principles and Techniques, Hydrocarbons, Environmental Chemistry.

Section – 2 : Higher Order Thinking Questions - Syllabus as per Section – 1.

Section – 3 : Sets, Relations and Functions, Principle of Mathematical Induction, Logarithms, Complex Numbers & Quadratic Equations, Linear Inequations, Sequences and Series, Trigonometry, Straight Lines, Conic Sections, Permutations and Combinations, Binomial Theorem, Statistics, Mathematical Reasoning, Limits and Derivatives, Probability, Introduction to 3-D Geometry.

Section – 2 : Chemical Reactions and Equations, Acids, Bases and Salts, Metals and Non-metals, Carbon and Its Compounds, Periodic Classification of Elements, Life Processes, Control and Coordination, Reproduction in Organisms, Heredity and Evolution, Light-Reflection and Refraction, Human Eye and Colourful World, Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Electric Current, Sources of Energy, Our Environment and Its Management.

Section – 3 : Higher Order Thinking Questions - Syllabus as per Section – 2

NSO Syllabus for Class 9

Section 1: Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

Section 2: Cell-The Fundamental Unit of Life, Motion, Diversity in Living Organisms, Force and Laws of Motion, Tissues, Gravitation, Why Do We Fall III, Natural Resources, Sound, Improvement in Food Resources, Structure of Atom, Matter in Our Surroundings, Work and Energy, Is Matter Around Us Pure, Atoms and Molecules

Section 3: Questions will be asked from section 2. These questions will be based on high order thinking.

NSO Syllabus for Class 8

Section 1: Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

Section 2: Crop Production and Management, Microorganisms, Synthetic Fibres and Plastics, Metals and Non-metals, Cell, Reproduction and Endocrine System, Chemical Effects of Electric Current, Light, Stars and the Solar System, Coal and Petroleum, Some Natural Phenomena, Conservation of Plants and Animals, Combustion and Flame, Force and Pressure, Friction, Sound, Pollution of Air and Water

Section 3: Questions will be asked from section 2. These questions will be based on high order thinking.

NSO Syllabus for Class 7

Section 1: Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

Section 2: Winds, Storms and Cyclones, Light, Electric Current and its Effects, Physical and Chemical Changes, Acids, Bases and Salts, Transportation in Plants and Animals, Climate and Adaptations of Animals to Climate, Motion and Time, Weather, Respiration in Organisms, Reproduction in Plants, Fibre to Fabric, Heat, Nutrition in Plants and Animals, Natural Resources and their Conservation.

Section 3: Questions will be asked from section 2. These questions will be based on high order thinking.

NSO Syllabus for Class 6

Section 1: Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

Section 2: Our Environment, Motion and Measurement of Distances, Food and its Components, Fun with Magnets, Light, Shadows and Reflections, The World of Living, Electricity and Circuits, Changes Around Us, Sorting and Separation of Materials, Fibre to Fabric.

Section 3: Questions will be asked from section 2. These questions will be based on high order thinking

NSO Syllabus for Class 5

Section 1: Embedded Figures, Patterns, Water Images, Analogy and Classification, Direction Sense Test, Ranking Test, Coding-Decoding, Puzzle Test, Geometrical Shapes, Alphabet Test and Logical Sequence of Words, Mirror Images.

Section 2: Earth and Universe, Animals, Pollution and Calamities,Matter, Human Body and Health, Plants, Force, Work and Energy, Natural Resources.

Section 3: Questions will be asked from section 2. These questions will be based on high order thinking

NSO Syllabus for Class 4

Section 1: Geometrical Shapes and Solids, Patterns, Embedded Figures, Alphabet Test, Ranking Test, Direction Sense Test, Days and Dates & Possible Combinations, Coding-Decoding, Analogy and Classification, Mirror Images.

Section 1: Alphabet Test, Patterns, Geometrical Shapes, Mirror Images, Analogy and Classification, Embedded Figures, Coding-Decoding, Grouping of Figures, Ranking Test, Figure Matrix, Days and Dates & Possible Combinations.

Section 2: Human Body, Light, Sound and Force, Plants and Animals, Earth and Universe, Birds, Matter and Materials, Food, Housing and Clothing, Transport and Communication, Our Environment.

Section 3: Questions will be asked from section 2. These questions will be based on high order thinking

NSO Syllabus for Class 2

Section 1: Analogy, Patterns, Completion, Measuring Units, Odd One Out, Ranking Test, Series, Geometrical Shapes, Grouping of Figures, Coding-Decoding, Embedded Figures.

Section 2: Plants, Animals, Air, Water and Rocks, Human Body, Transport and Communication, Food, Housing and Clothing, Family and Festivals, Occupations, Good Habits and Safety Rules, Earth and Universe.

Section 3: Questions will be asked from section 2. These questions will be based on high order thinking

NSO Syllabus for Class 1

Section 1: Geometrical Shapes, Spatial Understanding, Analogy, Grouping, Odd One Out, Measuring Units, Patterns, Ranking Test.

Section 2: Good Habits and Safety Rules, Living and Non-living things, Air and Water, Plants, Animals, Weather and the Sky, Human Beings and their Needs, .

Section 3: Questions will be asked from section 2. These questions will be based on high order thinking

NOTE:

  • Questions of level-I Olympiad exams will be 60% from the current class syllabus and 40% from the previous class syllabus, e.g. Class-7 NSO exam will have 60% questions from class-7 syllabus and 40% questions from class 6 syllabus
  • Questions of level-II Olympiad exams will be from current class syllabus only
  • Questions in Achievers Section will be from current class syllabus only
