Entrance Exams for Electrical Engineering

Though some colleges do offer direct admission to students (only based on their 10+2 aggregate percentage), most base it on the candidate's performance in an entrance exam, many state-level and national-level entrance tests can qualify one for the B.Tech program in Electrical Engineering. Only students who have cleared their 10+2 examination and had mathematics, chemistry, and physics as their main subjects can appear for the exams. These have been listed as follows:

It is important to revise important topics related to the exam before giving the Electrical Engineering Entrance Exam. Most of the knowledge tested is in subjects like physics, chemistry, and mathematics. English is also tested. Furthermore, some entrance exams also test the student's logical reasoning skills and provide an aptitude test. Candidates who perform well in these entrance exams have the edge over the other applicants. Distance Program in Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering can be studied via a distance/correspondence program. For those who cannot attend regular classes, this is an alternative to consider. Here are some important points regarding distance learning or correspondence program in Electrical Engineering in India:

  • The duration required to complete the course via distance learning is the same as a regular course, i.e., 4 years.
  • To be eligible for the course, students must have completed a 10+2 education focusing on mathematics, chemistry, and physics. Diploma holders with work experience are also eligible for the program.
  • The fees for the program differ from university to university. However, the average fee for the course is about INR 50000 to INR 200000 annually. In general, the fees are lesser than a regular program.
  • The syllabus for distance learning is the same as regular learning.

However, it should be noted that the Electrical Engineering B.Tech Distance Program is not valid. This is because B.Tech Electrical Engineering requires intensive practical training, not just theoretical knowledge. As the former is not possible in a correspondence program, the Supreme Court and AICTE do not consider it valid.

Fortunately, B.E. in Electrical Engineering via distance learning is a valid program as it is limited to only theoretical knowledge. Colleges that offer distance learning/correspondence programs include IIT, BITS Pilani, VIT Vellore, NIT, IIME, and more.
