The Robotic Engineering course deals with the design and development of autonomous systems, industrial automation, and robots for several purposes. A robotic engineer is responsible for creating robots and robotic systems that will be able to perform duties that humans are either unable to or prefer not to complete. Take a look in detail at the whole course including syllabus, subjects, colleges, etc.

What is Robotic Engineering?

Robotic engineering is the field of engineering that deals with building machines that replicate human actions. These applications or autonomous machines (robots) are created by a robotic engineer for industries including mining, manufacturing, automotive, services, and more. The purpose is to programme the machines to do repetitive, hazardous, or unhealthy jobs.

About Robot

The word "robot" was coined by Karel Capek, a Czech novelist, in a 1920 play named Rassum's Universal Robots (RUR). In Czech, the word "robot" is used for a worker or servant. A robot is a reprogrammable, multifunctional manipulator that is designed to move material parts, tools, or specialised devices via variable programmed motions for the performance of a variety of tasks.

What is the work of a robotic engineer?

The work of a robotic engineer is to design prototypes, build and test machines, and maintain the software that controls them. On the other hand, they also do research to find out the most cost-efficient and safest process to manufacture their robotic systems.

Robots conduct

- Research in several robotic fields, like nanotechnology.

- Design processes and prototypes to build machines.

- Test the robotic systems, etc.

1. Diploma Course in Robotics Engineering

Aspirants who are looking for short-term courses in robotic engineering can join this diploma course. Its duration is upto 3 years.

- To pursue this course, an aspirant needs to complete their 10th class from a recognised board.

- There are a few colleges in India that provide diplomas in robotics engineering. Aspirants who want to pursue this course can choose between electrical and electronics engineering or a diploma in computer science engineering course.

- Here to note is that to pursue an engineering diploma course, it is important to crack the entrance examination.

2. Undergraduate Degree Course in Robotics Engineering

- The undergraduate degree programme in robotic engineering is B.tech. To pursue this course, an aspirant needs to complete their class 12 with physics, chemistry, and mathematics subjects.

- The duration of this course is 4 years.

- To pursue this course, an aspirant needs to crack entrance exams that are conducted by colleges or universities.

- In various colleges, this specialisation is provided with the combination of automation or electronics, like B.Tech in Automation and Robotics Engineering and B.Tech in Electronics and Robotics Engineering.

3. Postgraduate Course in Robotics Engineering

- It is a master's degree course, and the degree provided in this course is M.tech.

- Its duration is two years.

- To pursue this course, aspirants need to crack the GATE exam.

- This degree course provides in-depth knowledge in the areas of robotics engineering by covering electro-mechanics, robotics sensors and instrumentation, robotics fabrication, artificial intelligence, and robotic vision.

Robotic Engineering Course: Eligibility Criteria

An interested aspirant should have good knowledge of science and mathematics. The basic eligibility the criteria is mentioned below:

An aspirant should pass Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with a minimum of 50% marks.

- If an aspirant is taking admission to an M.Tech programme, then they should have a Bachelor's degree in Robotics Engineering.

B.Tech in Robotic Engineering: Top Exams

JEE Main: It is conducted by NTA twice a year. JEE is one of the major engineering entrance exams in the country for seeking admission into the most reputed institutes for undergraduate engineering and architecture programmes in IITs, NITs, and other CFTIs funded by participating state governments, etc.

JEE Advanced: It is held once a year and is conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology. Aspirants who clear the JEE Main exam are only eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced examination. Aspirants who want to study and take admission to IITs need to clear this exam.

SRMJEEE: This is a university level exam which is conducted by the SRM Institute of Science and Technology for taking admission in B.Tech from across its campuses.

BITSAT: This exam is conducted by the Birla Institute of Technology and Science.
