The study of anthropological linguistics explains the role of languages in the social lives of individual and within communities. It covers aspects such as grammar. The two sub-fields were combined together when anthropologists in the United States were studying indigenous cultures and languages. In simple terms, Linguistic Anthropology is an interdisciplinary field dedicated to the study of language from an anthropological perspective.
Anthropological Linguistics has played a major role in the studies of areas such as visual perception (colour), perception and surroundings. Anthropological Linguistics also deals with the origin of various languages in which have emerged from various geographical areas. Anthropological linguistics studies such distinctions and relates them to the types of societies which have been formed.

The study describes how goals, key concepts, unit of analysis, issues and methods have changed over the last hundred years. Over the years, linguistic anthropologists have regarded language as a sophisticated sign system which contributes to the constitution of society and cultural human practices.
