Applied Econometrics is a branch of Economics and Mathematics, especially statistics in describing economic systems. The study of Applied Econometrics is the application of statistical methods to economic data in order to provide empirical content to economic relationships. Applied Econometrics uses theoretical econometrics and data for assessing theories, developing econometric models, analyzing the history and forecasting. Students who opt for a course in Applied Econometrics, need to understand the methods, theories and types of models that are used to for observational data.

The topics studied in the course include analysis of matching methods, identification of average, local average and marginal treatment effects using instrumental variables, control experiments, post-estimation diagnostics, binary choice models and binary classification methods and more. The courses are generally complimented with computing exercises using real data in R or Stata.

Students who aim to take up the course, should have knowledge of quantitative research methods or introductory statistics, up to linear regression analysis.

Mode of Admission: Universities and Colleges will either conduct entrance exams for admission or offer admission through merit. For postgraduate courses, the candidate will have to appear for an entrance exam.

Results: Selected and qualified candidates make the merit list. The student has to get the desired rank and percentage, to be eligible for admission.

Counselling: The candidate will have to appear for the counselling session conducted at the university to book their seat, submit their documents and pay the fees to seal admission.
