Modern History in India came into existence after the Medieval Era, which saw the collapse of the Mughal Empire in the 17th century. Modern History teaches students about the English Colonisation in India which began in the 19th century, along with various events, and incidents, the age of Industrialisation in India, how the development came along, to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi’s valiant efforts to drive the British out from India and claim independence. Students also get to learn about Modern History in Europe, the two World Wars which took place, and how industrialization changed the entire outlook of the continent and the world. There are many various events that are studied and researched. From the Independence of India to the partition of states in 1947. Historians have studied the four main schools of Histrography in recent decades which are: Cambridge, Nationalist, Marxist, and Subaltern.
Students who take up a History course in Modern History learn about topics such as the Growth of Communalism in Politics, the Movements of Gandhi, the Foundation of the Indian National Congress, De-industrialization, Modern Europe, the Renaissance period, the Enlightenment period, Fascism, Industrial Revolution, French Revolution, 1848 revolutions and much more. Students get to learn plenty and generally learn Modern History to clear UPSC Civil Services Exams.
