One of the best colleges for engineering after IITs.
Placements: The overall placements are good. Almost all eligible students got jobs. The placement percentage of our branch was around 90%. Some of the students went for higher studies as well. Overall, the highest package in Chemical Engineering was 44 LPA from Microsoft. The highest package offered in core sector was 18.6 LPA, which was offered by BPCL to two students. Pidilite also offered the package of 18 LPA to one student. The lowest package was 3.60 LPA from TCS. And the average package was somewhere around 9–10 LPA. The top recruiters were BPCL GAIL, Microsoft, ExxonMobil, Reliance Industries Ltd. , Pidilite Industries, Saint Gobin, Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services, etc. For internships, it is somewhat difficult to get an on-campus internship. Only 10–12 students out of 84 got an on-campus internship in Reliance, Saint Gobin, Koel Fresh Pvt Ltd, etc. Most of my batchmates are looking for off-campus opportunities, including myself.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is very good. It has almost every important thing on campus. For our course, most of the classes and labs were held in the Chemical Engineering department and some were held in the Lecture Hall Complex. The classes in our department are not very good in terms of ventilation; it's very difficult and suffocating during the summer and rainy seasons. There are no ACs or Wi-Fi in departmental classes. The rooms in the lecture halls are very good. They are fully air conditioned but Wi-Fi is also not there; we have to use our own data. The infrastructure of hostels is kind of good; we get all the basic facilities like water and electricity all the time, the room size is manageable, and the cleanliness is also very nice and regular. There is one fan, one tubelight, a table chair, and a bed provided by the hostel management. All rooms have LAN ports through which students can use unlimited internet using a LAN. The speed of the internet generally remains high. There is also one juice centre and a night canteen within our hostel, which have average-quality food.
Faculty: The faculty members are generally very helpful and supportive. Almost all faculty members of our department have Ph.D.s from reputed colleges in India. Some have post-doctoral degrees from foreign universities. They have good knowledge and their quality of teaching is good. Almost all of the course content is relevant except for a few subjects. I personally found 1-2 courses as interesting but they are manageable. They haven't revised the syllabus for some years but they are now doing that. They have now introduced new courses on AI and ML in chemical engineering for the upcoming batches. Also, there are mid-semester exams of 30 marks and end-semester exams of 50 marks, and the remaining 20 marks are provided by the professor as internal assessment, which includes class tests. The semester exams are not very tough, except for some subjects. Some faculty members follow previous year papers as a reference so it helps a lot to have an idea about the questions.
Other: I chose Chemical Engineering based on my interest. I chose 5-year dual degree course so that I can have a Bachelors and masters degree in 5 years. It saved me one year as compared to individual B.Tech. and M.Tech. courses of 6 years. However, there are fewer opportunities for us as compared to a B.Teach student but it is manageable. I think there should be some improvement required in our course, like the syllabus being revised and some less relevant subjects being replaced by some more effective subjects. Our college mainly has 4 big festivals in a year. INNOVISION is a technical festival where different events and activities are organised related to the latest technologies. VRIDDHI is the annual sports festival in which many sports events like football, cricket, volleyball, chess, swimming, etc. Championship are organized, and many students from other institutes also take part in the events. COSMOPOLITAN is the annual cultural festival where different events representing different cultures of india are performed by the students. NITRUTSAV is also a grand festival where the most exciting event is the Celebrity night, Last year, Admit Trivedi was the guest for the celebrity night. Rourkela is well connected with roadways and railways, and the nearest airport is Jharsuguda Airport. The campus is around 8 km from the Rourkela railway station, from which you can take an auto rickshaw.

Infrastructure and campus are good, but placements and faculty members are not good.
Placements: Almost all of the students got placed in analytical services rather than the core chemical engineering field. The covid crisis had a huge impact on the number of recruits. Since most of the processes were online, most of the companies had pool campus recruitment, and this affected the number of students being recruited from our campus. There were very few core companies that actively recruited students from our campus. Most of the companies were reluctant to recruit as they hadn't called the previous year recruits.
Infrastructure: Maybe it has one of the best infrastructures among all NITs. I have gone to some 4 NITs, and I think it might only be the sole good point for Rourkela NIT. Internet is provided in every room via LAN cables. Food quality is average in the mess, but day and night canteens are available inside the campus. Sports and games facilities are average, but they are not great. For medical facilities, they take Rs. 2,000 for every semester. However, the quality of medical healthcare in this place is very sub-standard.
Faculty: Faculty members' behavior depends on the stream that an individual has selected. Chemical engineering professors are very egoistic and innovative in finding new ways to create extra burdens for students. There are very few exceptions among them. Classes are just a presentation being shown with a projector with minimum input from the professors for an interactive session. In the curriculum, every topic is being covered. It is not the truth because professors are keen on teaching topics with which they are familiar instead of actual topics. As a result of this behavior, students end up studying the same topic for 2, 3 semesters rather than studying the actual topic.

Apart from placements and internship offers, everything is good at NIT Rourkela.
Placements: Placement and internship opportunities are not that good for our branch. Placements are the best for only CSE, ECE, EI, EE and ME branches. The average salary package offered in our branch is around 5 to 6 LPA, and the highest salary package offered is around 11 to 12 LPA. Top recruiting companies are different laboratories, Resonance, FIITJEE and other educational institutes. Most of the students from our branch after pursuing their M.Tech go for higher studies in different IITs and some in foreign universities. Our branch students get research internships under professors of different reputed universities of India. M.Tech and integrated M.Tech students don't get industrial placement, but they generally get research and teaching-oriented placements.
Infrastructure: For all branches of NIT Rourkela, infrastructure and facilities are above the mark. Classrooms are quite spacious and equipped with blackboards, whiteboards, projector and screen technology. Our labs are also equipped with almost all kinds of materials that are required for conducting the experiments in the course framework. Wi-Fi facility is available in the whole college, and it is above the mark as data speed is above-average. The central library is quite used and has almost all kinds of books that are required for reference. Hostel rooms are also good and spacious, and the mess food is quite hygienic. Sometimes the mess food is quite tasty, but on some other days, it is not that good. We have a dispensary in about two to three kilometres which is a quite a walkable distance. Sports facilities are also good as there are many big stadiums like fields for different sports like football, cricket, hockey and many other sports.
Faculty: Teachers of NIT Rourkela are highly qualified and educated. Most of them got the M.Tech as well as PhD degrees from IITs and other reputed institutes of India. Even some of them have also got their PhD and M.Tech degrees from foreign institutes. Teaching quality is also good, and some teachers try to find different ways to make students understand the hard concepts. Teachers and lab assistants are quite helpful, and you can approach them if you have some doubts. The curriculum is quite relevant, and most attention is given to research-oriented teaching. Practical knowledge is also given importance.
Other: NIT Rourkela is awesome, huge and is covered with thousands of trees, which is making it one of the most beautiful campuses of India. There are many hotels and restaurants nearby and inside the campus as well. During your free time, you can spend time with your friends and have fun on campus. Extra co-curricular activities are given importance in NIT Rourkela, and there are more than 50 to 60 clubs which help students to live their passion. The official dancing photography and cultural clubs also get a chance to perform during the events conducted by NIT Rourkela. Events and fests organised by NIT Rourkela are well-managed and are famous among the students of India. Many students come to NIT Rourkela to take part in different competitions and to attend different programs and events that happen during fests and events.

There were good placements in the year 2019.
Placements: Around 90% of the students get placements from our college every year with the average salary package of around 4 LPA-5 LPA. The highest salary package offered by Goldman Sachs for chemical engineering was 21 LPA. Companies like ExxonMobil, IOCL, etc., offer good placements every year, and around 80% of the students get internships every year.
Infrastructure: Our college has the best hostel which students can expect from any government college. The infrastructure is very good, and every room in the hostel is provided with LAN facility from 5:15 pm to 8:15 am every day and 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday. The quality of the food served in the mess is good according to the prices.
Faculty: All the teachers here are highly qualified mainly from IITs and other reputed institutions. Their teaching quality is quite good but can be improved somewhat. GATE syllabus is just like our course syllabus, so our course helps us to prepare for both GATE and academics easily.
