Q:   Can I get admission to Delhi Technological University in BTech CSE if my rank is under 5000?

A:

For last year, the closing rank for B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering was 4008 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one cannot afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing year on year, it is advisable to try to score better ranks to increase your chances of getting admission in DTU - Delhi Technological University.

Q:   How is DTU for B.Tech?

A:

DTU ranked 29 under the 'Engineering' category by the NIRF 2023. There are many IITs ranked before DTU under the same category. Also, it competes against the top-notch NITs and second-phase IITs in several specialisations of BTech. Hence, it is safe to say that DTU is as good as an IIT or an NIT in northern India. In fact, The Times Rankings 2022 ranked DTU number 1 in the Delhi NCR region for 'Engineering' category.

DTU BTech students are placed in top companies like Samsung, Microsoft, Zomato, and others. Also the BTech fee is not very high. To clear JEE Main, candidates must study according to the JEE Main syllabus and appear for as many JEE Main mock tests as possible.

Q:   Can I get direct admission in DTU for BTech?

A:

The selection criteria for BTech at DTU clearly states that having a JEE Mains rank is the minimum requirement for final seat allotment. Therefore, it is suggested to get qualifying scores at JEE Mains for admission at DTU. Additionally, students are also required to go through the JAC counselling process to get a seat at Delhi Technological University. After the result of JEE Main, JAC counselling for seat allotment is usually conducted in four rounds. However, there are additional spot rounds conducted for vacant seats (if available).

    Reality of Delhi Technological University.
Placements: DTU offers excellent placement opportunities, with almost 40-50% of students securing packages above 15 LPA, and around 20% receiving offers of nearly 30 LPA and above. The criteria for selection vary from company to company, but a safe CGPA is 8.5, which makes you eligible for almost every company. This year, Google came at the start of the placement season and offered positions to 4 students with packages exceeding 40 LPA. Other companies like Microsoft, ARM, and Nvidia also visit the campus for placements. The mass recruiters here include Accenture, Infosys, and TCS. My plan is to secure a good placement from the college and then consider pursuing a postgraduate degree if necessary.
Infrastructure: All classrooms are air-conditioned and have a staircase structure, ensuring that all students can see the black/whiteboard. The library has a great collection of books and is truly the most peaceful place on the whole campus. Mess food is average—not too bad. Hostel registration is done by filling out an online form that opens shortly after the JAC Delhi counseling, or you can visit the hostel office and request accommodation. Mess and hostel fees are relatively affordable, but prices are rising every year. Sports are greatly encouraged here; DTU has a team for every sport and even for various athletic events.
Faculty: I have to say that the curriculum of this course is the easiest among all others, which can be a good thing. The faculty for this course are mostly PhD and M.Tech scholars, so while they are highly knowledgeable, their teaching methods and classroom instruction are not as effective. Exams are conducted according to the yearly calendar released by DTU, and the level of the exams is fairly easy, with most questions coming from previous years’ papers.
Other: I chose this course due to my keen interest in the software side of engineering and my desire to make it my lifelong career. I got this branch of Software Engineering at 11.7k rank in the JEE Mains, and I am an Outside Delhi Region student. The only downside is the reservation for Inside Delhi students, as their cut-off ranks are comparatively lower. Campus life at DTU is vibrant, with a fest happening almost every month, organized by different societies. Yuvaan, Invictus, and the most famous cultural fest of North India, Engifest where big superstars and famous singers perform every year, are some of the highlights.

Strong academics and thrilling events, making college life enjoyable.
Placements: The FTE placement statistics for 2024 in Software Engineering are as follows: 34 students got PPO offers. 14 students were hired as interns in top companies. The average CTC was 28.32 LPA. The top recruiting companies were Microsoft, Google, Uber, Spriklr, Salesforce, and Adobe.
Infrastructure: One of the standout features of DTU is its infrastructure. The classrooms and labs are well equipped, air conditioned, and spacious. Additionally, the campus is beautifully maintained, and the wifi functions properly. Mess food is a little unsatisfying but edible, which is what matters. Hostels have activity rooms and reading rooms to study too. Canteen food is amazing. You can also find outlets of Dominos, Amul, and Safal on the campus itself.
Faculty: The teachers here are incredibly helpful and approachable. It's extremely easy to ask them questions and engage in discussions. They often provide important questions during class, which makes exam preparation much more manageable since the passing percentage is 33%.
Other: DTU has a very relaxed curriculum, which attracted me after the unforgettable two-year JEE grind. Plus, they have very decent placement opportunities. There is a variety of extracurriculars too, encouraging a well-rounded college experience. The best part is the fests. They are so much fun! Notable artists like Shreya Ghoshal, Vivek Samtani, Sunidhi Chauhan, and Talwinder have visited here.

Honest details of DTU with Explanation.
Placements: Students become eligible for on-campus internships in their 3rd year and full-time job opportunities in their 4th year. Over 200 companies have made 800+ offers recently, with the highest package reaching 64 LPA and the average ranging between 15-20 LPA. Despite market challenges, nearly 50% of the teaching batch has secured placements.
Infrastructure: DTU provides a vibrant campus life with numerous fests, including the major cultural fest, Engifest, and tech fest, Invictus DTU, featuring multiple hackathons. The library is well-stocked for research purposes, and classrooms are equipped with modern amenities. The campus also boasts extensive sports facilities, including cricket and football grounds, indoor badminton, and table tennis facilities.
Faculty: The professors, all highly qualified from renowned institutions worldwide, make the learning experience enriching. Each semester, lasting six months, includes mid-term and end-term exams, which are generally manageable, ensuring a high pass rate. Here, the faculty-to-student ratio is impressive at 1:25. However, success depends on the individual subject teachers and their paper-setting approach.
Other: I opted for this course due to its anticipated future demand and its alignment with my interests. Education loans, available at 9% or 10% interest rates from banks, can help cover these high fees. Additionally, scholarships are offered based on categories such as OBC, SC, ST, EWS, and government colleges, depending on financial assets.

I want to thank this college for new experiences and for providing me a platform to grow and learn.
Placements: The placement percentage ranges from 80-90% in my branch. For tech roles in India, the average salary ranges from 20-30 LPA, with the highest being 82 LPA domestically, and the lowest ranges from 7-10 LPA. Top recruiting companies include FAANG, Microsoft, Flipkart, Uber, etc.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is available across the campus, including in the labs, libraries, hostels, and classrooms. Hostels are pretty decent, and the girls' hostel is no less than a hotel. The mess food is healthy and hygienic, cleanliness is maintained everywhere, and there is proper regulation of medical and sports facilities.
Faculty: Teachers are smart and helpful. They hold the proper qualifications and knowledge to teach. The teaching quality varies from teacher to teacher, but overall, it is a decent experience. The first-semester curriculum is not that relevant for software, but after that, the curriculum is relevant and updated. The difficulty of semester exams is decent, and almost everyone passes the exam.
Other: I have always had an interest in software, which is why I chose this course. The best thing about my course is the placement.

Great Infrastructure and awesome campus design. Good placement and internship opportunities.
Placements: Top companies like Apple, Microsoft, Adobe, Flipkart, etc. visit campus. 85% of the students get placed. 82 LPA was the highest package, and 15 Lacs was the average package last year. Software Engineers generally get an average package of 20 LPA. The internship and placement opportunities of the college are actually good.
Infrastructure: Great facilities in classes with centralized ACs and Smart Boards, Wi-Fi connection in Library, pure drinking water, and curtains in Hostel, but Hostels' Wi-Fi doesn't work. We have to pay for the internet connection on our own, although it is mentioned in the hostel facilities.
Faculty: Teachers are knowledgeable, but they are not that supportive. Teachers generally tend not to help students when they are in need. Although my department's HOD is a very helpful and humble lady. The course curriculum is outdated and is not industry ready. The exams' difficulty level is moderate, and generally only 2-3 students fail from each branch.

    Not-so-good points:

    * Limited internship opportunities: While PPOs and internships are available, some students might find limited opportunities in their desired fields.
    * Semester exams: Some students found the semester exams challenging, requiring dedicated effort to pass.
