Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   How is the overall infrastructure of NIT Srinagar?

A:
{Source: B.Tech students & alumni]

NIT Srinagar has a semi-restricted campus life for girl students, with allowed movements within specified timings. The dress code is flexible, and there are multiple sports facilities and coaches available. However, there are additional expenses for books and eating out, and the college has a moderately busy event calendar. The mess food is of acceptable quality and hygiene, and attendance policies are strictly enforced. The college culture is mostly English-speaking, with diverse student backgrounds and no reported discrimination. Academic life focuses on textbook-based lectures and case studies, with accessible research resources and security measures such as guards and CCTV cameras.

Based on the reviews provided, the overall infrastructure of NIT Srinagar is mixed. Some reviewers found the facilities to be good, with high-tech classrooms, a well-maintained library and high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity. However, others had negative experiences with the hostel facilities, stating that there were too many students living in each room and the Wi-Fi was not available in all areas. Additionally, some reviewers mentioned that the buildings are not in great shape and need improvement.

Summary: The infrastructure of NIT Srinagar is decent, with some areas needing improvement. While some reviewers enjoyed the high-tech classrooms and modern amenities, others had issues with the hostel accommodations and maintenance of the buildings.

If you are from CSE/IT then placement is very good but for core branch you should not expect much.

NIT Srinagar is a very good college in terms of its location and academic purpose.
Placements: 30 students got placed in Civil Engineering. The highest package was 8 LPA and the lowest was 6 LPA. Vedanta and TATA were the top recruiting companies. Different companies take part in placement sessions, in which most of the Computer Science and Information Technology students get jobs more than other branches.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is available all over the campus. Labs are well-equipped and the library remains open from 7:00 am to 12:00 am. Some hostels are very good, and some are of average quality. The quality of food is average. Medical and sports facilities are medium. All the departments have separate labs with modern equipment.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, and they have studied at IITs and foreign universities. Semester exams happen according to the calendar date exactly, and the passing percentage is 40%. If every student takes part, whether it is academic or non-academic, this is only possible because of the support of teaching and non-teaching faculty.
Other: I have chosen Civil Engineering because of government job opportunities. The main thing which I liked about my course was the analysis of every structure. Infrastructure can be improved to the next level. Two fests happen in a year: one is cultural, and the other is tech-based. The campus is not too crowded; it has a very pleasant atmosphere.

This review is given according to my opinion.
Placements: 70% of students were placed this year from Civil Engineering, with the highest package of 19 LPA and an average of 11 LPA. Top recruiting companies include Wipro, Ambuja, and L&T, and many more. Many students get internships from both the college and companies. About 100% of students get them. Many roles were assigned to students, like HR manager, etc.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are equipped with advanced technology and have great ventilation, which is suitable for both winters and summers. The library is not much bigger but has enough resources like books and other necessary equipment. Hostels are overcrowded but are very good, and the hostel food is average.
Faculty: Every teacher in this college is highly qualified and trained well to teach and understand the subject plus students, but some teachers are only translating the PPT available on digital boards. Yes, for my course, the curriculum is more relevant, which makes students ready for the world. Semester exams are not very difficult, but their frequency makes them difficult. Above 40% is the pass percentage.
Other: I chose this course as I did not want to work out of the station, and this course is highly recommended in this college. This course is vast, but we need to have specific and goal-oriented aims for excelling in it. The restrictions that are applied must be removed, and college students must be given a free life to move out of campus whenever required.

For civil engineering, this college is not preferable because placements are not good for it.
Placements: In B.Tech Civil Engineering, only 60% of students get placement. The highest package is 19 LPA and the lowest is 6 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Google, Microsoft, Oracle, etc. About 70 to 75% of students get internships offered by companies. Top roles offered are structural engineering and more.
Infrastructure: The hostel rooms are below average; a single room is occupied by 5 students. Labs are good but not well-equipped; we can say they are decent. The library is very small; it can't hold more than 100 students at a time and also books are very limited. Overall, it's bad for those who are thinking that they will get space or books rather than engineering. In the hostel, the food quality is decent. The facilities like water, Wi-Fi, etc., are very bad. Medical facilities are excellent. Sports are decent here, and the college is providing very few funds for sports events.
Faculty: Teachers are good, and they are well-qualified as well as knowledgeable. Teaching quality is very good. Yes, the course curriculum is relevant, and it makes students industry-ready. Exams are medium level in mid-sem, but pretty hard in end-sem, and the pass percentage is 40%.

I am satisfied with the overall performance of this college.
Placements: Not many students got placed in my course, roughly around 16%. The highest package that I am aware of is around 13 LPA and the lowest one is around 6 LPA. VEDANTA internship opportunities are there as well in my course, like some IITs offer internship opportunities.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is quite good here, and the classrooms are well-equipped to ensure the students feel comfortable. ACs are installed inside the classrooms, and Wi-Fi access is there in the library and hostels as well. Labs are also crammed with the necessary equipment. Sports and medical care are to be appreciated.
Faculty: Teachers, to be honest, are very helpful, especially in my course. No matter how many times you visit their cabins, there’s no compromise with teaching quality. The syllabus is a bit outdated and not up to date in my course. Semester exams make you face a bunch of conundrums, especially in the Structural Analysis course.

NIT Srinagar is a good college.
Placements: 70% of students got placed. The highest package is 18 LPA and the average package is 7 LPA. These are for core civil. Well, civil students can also take placement in technical fields. For this, you should know some computer programming languages, like python, C++, Java, etc. If you want, you can also learn web development, etc. All of these are not compulsory; 1-2 will be enough. Learn 3D design software for core civil engineering applications.
Infrastructure: All the facilities are good in the hostels and mess. All the indoor and outdoor sports and games facilities are available. A medical center is also there. Mess is not too good or too bad. You will get non-veg three days a week. Almost everything is available in the canteen.
Faculty: Mid-semester is easy and end-semester is moderate. Teachers are very helpful and qualified. Teachers are very good. The first-year courses will be the same for all branches. The second year will be divided and yes, the course is curriculum-relevant and will make students industry-ready.
Other: 2 fests are held every year: technical and cultural. And inter-college competitions are also conducted.

Q:   What should be a better choice for an EE between PEC University Chandigarh and NIT Srinagar, considering the cutoff trends?

A:

During the NIT Srinagar cutoff 2023, the last round closing rank for the Electrical Engineering course was 2267 for the General AI category student. As per the PEC University Chandigarh cutoff 2023, the last round closing cutoff was 32970, which is on the higher side. It means the competition is less for EE at PEC Chandigarh as compared to NIT Srinagar. For 2022 and 2021, the last round cutoff stood at 1704 and 1267, respectively for NIT Sringar EE course. Q:   What to do after JEE Main session 2 result?

A:

Candidates preparing for IITs are only required to appear for the JEE Advanced entrance exam after qualifying JEE Main. Students who who secure above the 98th percentile in JEE Main 2024 Session 2 should start preparing for JEE Advanced 2025 immediately. Those who score between 95th and 98th percentile should focus on improving their JEE Main score by taking multiple mock tests and practicing previous year's question papers. By analysing their strengths and weaknesses, candidates can identify their areas of proficiency and topics where they need improvement. If they can achieve full marks in their practice sessions, they can start preparing for JEE Advanced. However, if they cannot score full marks, it is recommended that they appear for multiple mock test series for more practice.
