Cadre allocation list for IAS officers of batch 2018 was released by the Department of Personnel recently. This year also few lucky IAS Probationers got their home state cadre and rest majority got other as their cadre state.
IAS Cadre allocation is done by the Department of Personnel and Training(DoPT). The UPSC send the list of recommended candidates to the Ministry of Personnel and from there it comes to the DoPT. IAS cadre allocation is a complex process and even the IAS toppers most of the time do not get their home cadres.

Department of Personnel and Training working under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions had released the IAS 2018 Cadre allocation list. The cadre allocation is the process of allocating the selected candidates of the UPSC Civil Services exam to the states for their permanent place of posting. This list was issued for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers selected in the IAS Exam.

The cadre allocation list for the IAS Officers is issued by the Department of Personnel, the cadre controlling authority for IAS. The cadre allocation list for the Indian Police Service (IPS) is released by the Ministry of Home. The cadre allocation list is the yearly affair and the list has the following information.

IAS cadre allocation explained
The cadre allocation is a complex process and the details of which are not made public only the results are made public in the form of the cadre allocation list. There are roasters of Insiders and Outsiders. Insider means the person from that state only and the Outsider means the person coming from outside the state. The states have their separate list which says about the total number of cadre requisition from that state. Each state gets two outsiders and one insider for every three vacancies.

The department needs to correlates the candidates’ states preference given in their Detailed Application Form (DAF), the state’s vacancies and its ratio of 1:2 for the insider and outsider so that the total numbers of IAS officers maintain the required ratio. In the whole exercise, some lucky IAS officers get their home state and allocated state cadre same. All the candidates after the allocation of service pray for the home cadre but even the toppers some time do not get their home cadre.

This year also, the rank 2 Akshat Jain did not get his home cadre and is allocated to the Madhya Pradesh cadre but his home state is Rajasthan. In the year 2017 also, the rank 2 Anu Kumari was assigned to Kerala and her home state was Haryana. The cadre allocation is a complex exercise because it is not clear with which state the cadre allocation will start and also with Insider or outsider. So it is a complex exercise and the details of which are not fully known to us.
