CSIR NET Result 2023 has been announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on July 25, 2023, on its official website. Candidates can check their results through the official website. The CSIR UGC NET result 2023 has been announced through the normalisation of scores. The CSIR NET percentile is calculated through the NTA Score.

The CSIR NET June 2023 session exam was conducted from June 6 to 8, 2023. The exam was held in shifts for five papers- Earth Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Chemical Sciences and Life Sciences. In each session, candidates were given different sets of CSIR NET question papers.

Q:   What is CSIR NET cut-off?

A:
The CSIR NET (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test) cut-off is the minimum marks that a candidate needs to score in order to qualify for the next stage of the selection process. The cut-off marks are determined based on various factors such as the number of candidates appearing for the exam, difficulty level of the exam, etc. The cut-off marks are different for different categories of candidates such as General, OBC, SC, ST, and PwD. The cut-off marks are usually released along with the announcement of the result.

Q:   How is CSIR NET cut-off determined?

A:
The CSIR NET (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test) cut-off is determined based on several factors, which include: A) Number of candidates appearing for the exam: The cut-off marks may be higher if a large number of candidates appear for the exam as there is a higher competition for limited seats. B) Difficulty level of the exam: The cut-off marks may be lower if the exam is relatively easier as more candidates may score higher marks. C) Number of available seats: The cut-off marks may be higher or lower depending on the number of available seats for JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) and lectureship. D) Category of the candidate: The cut-off marks are different for different categories of candidates such as General, OBC, SC, ST, and PwD. E) Previous year cut-off trends: The cut-off marks may be similar to or higher than the previous year's cut-off marks depending on the overall performance of the candidates. After considering the above factors, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) determines the cut-off marks for CSIR NET. The cut-off marks are usually released along with the announcement of the result.

Q:   When will the CSIR NET cut-off 2023 be released?

A:

CSIR NET Cutoff 2023 was released by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on February 19, 2024, on its official website. The CSIR UGC NET cutoff marks was released subject-wise separately for the CSIR UGC NET 2023 Exam. The cut-off for CSIR NET is the minimum marks required by the candidates to qualify for the next stage of the selection process. The cut-off marks are determined based on various factors such as the number of candidates appearing for the exam, difficulty level of the exam, etc. Candidates who score equal to or above the cut-off marks are considered eligible for the next stage of the selection process. The selection process for CSIR NET usually comprises of a written exam, followed by an interview or document verification process.

Though the NTA undertook all the necessary efforts to maintain the same difficulty level for all the sets of question papers, it might be possible that some candidates could have ended up attempting a tougher set of CSIR UGC NET questions for a particular paper. Such a situation could end up lowering the CSIR NET scores of candidates.

To resolve this problem and ensure fair evaluation of candidates’ performance, NTA uses the Normalisation procedure based on Percentile Score.

CSIR NET Normalisation Process

The normalisation process is an established practice to compare the scores of candidates across multiple shifts of the CSIR NET exam. To normalise the CSIR NET scores across all the sessions, NTA uses the percentile score calculation method.

What is CSIR NET Percentile Calculator?

Percentile scores are the scores based on the relative performance of all candidates who appear for the CSIR NET examination. Basically, the marks obtained by candidates in various shifts are transformed into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session.

Q:   Who releases CSIR NET cut-off?

A:
The CSIR NET (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test) cut-off is released by the exam conducting authority, which is the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The cut-off marks are usually released along with the announcement of the result. The CSIR is responsible for determining the cut-off marks based on various factors such as the number of candidates appearing for the exam, difficulty level of the exam, etc. The cut-off marks are different for different categories of candidates such as General, OBC, SC, ST, and PwD.

Q:   Is the CSIR NET cut-off same for all categories?

A:
No, the CSIR NET (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test) cut-off is different for different categories of candidates. The cut-off marks are usually released separately for General, OBC, SC, ST, and PwD categories. The cut-off marks for each category are determined based on various factors such as the number of candidates appearing for the exam, difficulty level of the exam, etc. The cut-off marks for JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) are usually higher than the cut-off marks for lectureship.

Q:   What if I do not meet the CSIR NET cut-off?

A:
If you do not meet the CSIR NET (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test) cut-off for your subject and category, you will not be considered eligible for the next stage of the selection process. This means that you will not be eligible for the award of JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) or the post of Assistant Professor. However, not meeting the cut-off marks does not mean that you have failed the exam. You can still apply for other opportunities and exams that are relevant to your field of study. You can also analyze your performance in the exam and identify areas where you need to improve. This will help you prepare better for other exams and opportunities in the future.

Q:   Where can I check the CSIR NET cut-off?

A:
The CSIR NET (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test) cut-off is usually released along with the announcement of the result. Candidates can check the cut-off marks on the official website of CSIR NET. To check the cut-off marks, candidates need to follow these steps: a) Go to the official website of CSIR NET (csirnet. nta. nic. in). b) Click on the link for the result and cut-off marks. c) Enter your registration number and password or date of birth to log in. d) The result and cut-off marks will be displayed on the screen. e) Check the cut-off marks for your category and compare them with your score to know whether you have qualified for the next stage of the selection process.

Q:   What details are present on CSIR NET cut-off list?

A:
The CSIR NET (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test) cut-off list contains the following details: A) Subject: The name of the subject for which the exam was conducted. B) Category: The category of the candidate (General, OBC, SC, ST, or PwD). C) JRF or Lectureship: The cut-off marks for Junior Research Fellowship or Lectureship. D) Minimum marks: The minimum marks required by the candidate in order to qualify for JRF or Lectureship. E) Total number of candidates: The total number of candidates who appeared for the exam. The CSIR NET cut-off list is usually released along with the announcement of the result, and it is available on the official website of CSIR NET. Candidates can download and check the cut-off list to know whether they have qualified for the next stage of the selection process.

The percentile score calculation indicates the percentage of candidates that have scored either equal to or below that particular percentile in the examination. Therefore, the topper with the highest score of each shift of CSIR UGC NET will get the same percentile of 100. The marks obtained between the highest and lowest scores are also converted to appropriate percentiles.

The CSIR NET percentile calculator will be used to normalise the scores (instead of the raw marks of the candidate). The CSIR NET normalisation of marks is also used for the preparation of the merit lists.

The CSIR NET percentile scores are calculated up to 7 decimal places to avoid ties among the candidates.

How To Convert Percentile into Percentage?

Check below the method to convert the score for CSIR NET 2023 from the percentile into a percentage.

CSIR NET 2023 Percentage = Raw Score in the Exam x 100/120

Here, candidates need to make sure that there is no direct formula to convert the scores from a percentage into a percentile or vice versa, so it is necessary to use the raw score while calculating. This is explained in detail below.

How to Calculate the CSIR NET Percentile Score?

The NTA uses the following formula to calculate the CSIR NET percentile scores of candidates:

UGC NET Percentile Score Calculation Formula

Have a look at the following example to calculate the percentile score:

Suppose CSIR NET was conducted in four sessions. The distribution of candidates in the four sessions was as follows:

Example for UGC NET percentile score calculation

The highest raw score in each paper will be the 100 percentile indicating that 100 per cent of candidates have scored equal to lesser than the highest scorer of that session.

Highest raw and percentile score: All the highest raw scores have a normalised percentile score of 100.

UGC NET highest raw and percentile score calculation example

Lowest raw and percentile score: The percentile score of the lowest raw scores depends on the total number of candidates who gave the exam for their respective sessions.

UGC NET lowest raw and percentile score calculation example

CSIR NET Result Preparation with Normalisation of Scores

The CSIR NET result is prepared with the normalisation of marks of candidates as per the given steps:

Step 1: Distribution of candidates in two shifts

Firstly, the total number of candidates who appeared for the exam is distributed in two sessions so that each session has an equal number of candidates. The two sessions are as follows:

Session-1: Day-1 Shift-1, Session-2: Day-1 Shift-2

Note: If the exam is held in a more number of days or less number of shifts, the candidates will be divided accordingly.

Step 2: Result preparation for each session

The CSIR NET result is prepared for each session in the form of:

  • Raw scores
  • Percentile scores of total raw scores

The percentile score of each candidate in a particular session is calculated as per the given formula:

UGC NET total percentile calculation formula
Step 3: Compilation of CSIR NET scores

The percentile scores of the total raw scores for all the sessions, calculated in Step 2, are merged to form the NTA scores (percentile). These NTA scores are then used by the NTA for the compilation of CSIR UGC NET results.
