B.Tech in Construction Engineering is a specialisation offered under B.Tech in Civil Engineering. It is a course which prepares candidates with the application of civil engineering knowledge in the construction field. Construction Engineering- Important Facts
- Course Duration- The duration of undergraduate course in Construction Engineering is of four-years whereas postgraduate course is of two-years.
- Eligibility Criteria- Candidates aspiring to pursue B.Tech must have cleared Class 12th with passing percentage and from a recognised board. In addition to it, they must have also cleared any state or national-level entrance exams. For pursuing M.Tech, candidates must have cleared GATE and also pursued B.Tech in Construction Engineering/Civil Engineering from a recognised university.
- Course Fees- The cost of pursuing B.Tech in Construction Engineering vary from INR 1 lakh to INR 4 lakhs per annum, whereas for pursuing M.Tech, it varies from INR 50,000 to INR 2 lakhs per annum.
- Scope in India- Construction Engineering offers a range of career prospects in the field of civil and strategic construction. Professionals can work as Site Engineer, Tunnel Construction Engineer, Quality Control Engineer in sectors such as Transportation and Communication Infrastructure and Civil Infrastructure.

Construction Engineering Syllabus
Candidates pursuing B.Tech in Construction Engineering specialisation study the basic subjects such as Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Applications in the first year. They are also given basic introduction to drawing building plans and undergo practical classes to understand the theoretical concepts. Second year subjects consist of introduction to the various fluids, soils and solids used in construction and the study of their behaviour. Entrance Exams for Construction Engineering
Candidates who wish to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate course in Construction Engineering must appear in state-level or national-level entrance examinations. Some of the top entrance exams are as follows:
- JEE Mains- It is conducted by National Testing Agency for admissions into undergraduate engineering courses. Students can get admissions to top engineering colleges based on the rank scored in JEE Mains. Candidates must have completed Class 12th from a recognised board and studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- JEE Advanced- JEE Advanced is conducted by the seven zonal IITs under the aegis of Joint Admission Board. Those candidates who have cleared JEE Mains can appear JEE Advanced and can secure a seat in the top IITs and IISc.
- GATE- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an entrance conducted for admissions to postgraduate courses in Construction Engineering. It is conducted by the joint collaboration of IITs and IISc under the aegis of the MHRD. It is conducted once in a year and is one of the most competitive exams of this country.
- KITEEE- This entrance is conducted by the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate courses in construction engineering.
- BITSAT- This entrance is conducted by the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani for admissions to undergraduate programs such as BE, B.Tech and B.Pharma. BITS has three campuses in India namely, Goa, Hyderabad and Pilani.
- WBJEE- This is a state level examination conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board for admissions to various courses under Engineering stream.
