Microwave Semiconductor Devices

The course introduces to the material properties of semiconductors, applications of microwave transistors and diodes and functioning of transferred electron devices and transit-time devices.

Antennas and Diversity

Learners understand the design of aperture antennas which are used for wireless communication, characteristics of dielectric resonator antenna and smart antennas.

Advanced Electromagnetic Engineering

This course deals with the types and properties of waves, cylindrical and spherical wave function and microwave networks.

Electromagnetic Interference & Electromagnetic Compatibility

The course introduces learners to the electromagnetic interference, conducted and radiated emission and susceptibility to determine electromagnetic compatibility.

Microwave and mm-wave Integrated Circuits

Learners are introduced to monolithic microwave (mm) integrated circuits, various elements in passive circuits and semiconductor circuits.

RF Circuit Design

It introduces to the components of a basic RF circuit, filter and biasing networks. It also teaches how to design a RF transistor amplifier and RF oscillators.

Numerical Techniques in Electromagnetics

It deals with the numerical methods to solve electromagnetic problems such as Finite Difference Time Domain, Moments Method, Finite Element and Monte Carlo Method.

Microwave Integrated Circuit Lab

It consists of experiments such as designing a microstrip low pass filter, phase shifters, coupled line coupler, microstrip transistor oscillator etc.

Semester 3

Satellite Based Wireless Communication

This is an introductory course on satellite communication and earth satellites. It deals with the propagation on satellite-earth paths and types of satellite networks.

Millimetre Wave Wireless Communication

It introduces to the challenges faced in implementing MM-Wave, radio wave propagation of MM-Wave and the use of antennas and array for MM-Wave appliances.

Microwave Measurement and Material Characterisation

It deals with the various materials used in microwave transmission and their characteristics. It also deals with the methods for characterisation of materials such as Reflection Method, Resonator Method, Resonant Perturbation Method and Planar-Circuit Method.

Semester 4

Thesis

Candidates have to submit a thesis on any research topic related to the course justifying skills acquired during the programme. This is a compulsory course which candidates have to submit for successful completion of the course.
