Aeronautical Engineering is a BTech course that focuses on the application of basic engineering concepts to aeronautical sciences.  However, the Aeronautical Engineering syllabus might vary from one university to another, the core subjects like Thermodynamics, Aerodynamics, Aircraft Maintenance, Engineering Mechanics, etc., remain the same. The curriculum consists of group projects, practicals, workshops, internships, industrial visits, and voyages. The internship also comprises mandatory  pilot training mandatory for all candidates who wish to complete this course. The students also need to form groups and prepare a final year project that offers solutions to different operations related to aeronautical sciences.

Aeronautical Engineering Syllabus: Important Factors

Some key facts related to Aeronautical Engineering are:

  1. 4-year Course: Aeronautical Engineering is a 4-year course in which the syllabus is divided into 8 semesters. The syllabus comprises core, elective, and fundamental subjects.
  2. Eligibility Criteria: Along with the 12th Class, the students must also complete a 3-year engineering diploma in any stream with a minimum of 45% marks. Some colleges/universities offer a relaxation of 5% to the candidates who belong to the reserved categories.
  3. Entrance Exams: Some colleges and universities have their own entrance exams for selecting the students for Aeronautical Engineering course. Students can appear for the JEE, GATE, IISAT, and other top engineering entrance exams to get admission to the college that offers this course.
  4. Exams: End-semester exams along with practical exams and projects are considered while evaluating the score of students. The theoretical exams generally carry a weightage of 50% marks, whereas the remaining 50% marks are divided between practicals and projects.
  5. Difference in syllabus in top engineering institutions: While IITs and IIST offer Aeronautical Engineering, there is hardly any difference in the syllabus. Also, NITs don’t offer this course.
